A meal a day for a better education!

Offer a meal from afar and receive the reward of a child!

Starvation is a phenomenon where a large part of the population of a region or country is so poorly nourished that death by starvation becomes a common phenomenon. Despite the extensive economic and technological resources of the modern world, starvation also affects many regions of the planet.

Starvation over an extended period of time led to the consumption of altered, rotten products, or even to the loss of ethics (even human flesh is consumed).

Approximately 900 million people are currently suffering from starvation, the vast majority of whom are children.

One of the main causes of starvation is also the lack of education. Lack of education is synonymous with lack of progress and of socio-economic development.

ProFood Revolution aims to offer a hot meal a day, in schools, to children living in the most disadvantaged areas.

In 2017, in the case of 1100 Venezuelan children who received a hot meal a day in school, school drop-out decreased 6 times, an absolutely astonishing percentage. From 7.4% per 1100 children, it is currently of merely 1.4%.

ProFood Revolution is trying to be present through the “a meal a day” program in Central and South America, in Europe, in Africa and in Southeast Asia. These are the regions where a significant number of students are in a school failure situation or leave/drop-out of school early, school attendance being directly influenced by the unfavourable socio-economic and geographic conditions (long distances and/or difficult routes from home to the educational establishment, lack of lunch), therefore, not being able to participate in curricular or extracurricular educational activities, data which is also reflected by the reports of international bodies on early school drop-out rates.

ProFood Revolution currently takes care of 3216 children, by offering a lunch meal, in 41 schools.

The meal box consists of bakery products, meat products and/or cheeses/dairy products, vegetables, and also a fruit item. The ‘use by’ date of the products distributed to school units on a catering basis, is the day of production, for the hot meals, and 24 hours, for sandwiches, respectively.

For the preparation of food we attend to the following principles:

1. No food additives, preservatives or any other type of flavour and taste enhancers shall be added.

2. The oil required for preparation shall only be used once, being a high-quality oil.

3. The onions prepared in the first phase of the cooking stage shall not be fried, but sweat with water.

4. The salt used shall not contain anti-agglomeration agents or any other additive.

5. Association of foods from the same group to the dishes served shall be avoided.

6. Foods that require an enhanced digestive effort or that have a stimulative effect, or whose combination produces unfavourable digestive effects (such as beans with yogurt or with compote) shall be avoided.

The cost for a child to benefit, for a period of one month, from a hot meal through our organization is of only USD 23. Large farmers and retailers offer us considerable discounts for our cause. Currently, we plan to increase the number of benefiting children to 6300, from January 1, 2019, and to recommission the site in a new format so as to allow the livestream connection of donors with the beneficiaries of such donations from all over the world. The higher the number of hungry children we can take care of, the lower the monthly price for each child will be. A larger amount of food means more children nourished at a lower price.

Children are the future! A proper diet means a healthy child!

We also have a gift for each donor. S/he will receive, a drawing and a hand-woven bracelet, by mail, both created by the child benefiting from the donation. In addition, each donor will receive a thank-you email directly from the child benefiting from the donation.
