A Home for Ladybug

Update posted by Victoria Mayne On Mar 02, 2020

We had to lay a new concrete slab in the front of the house to repair the old paving. This will need a top coat to make the three slabs uniform and then it becomes the place Ladybug can learn to ride her push bike which she'll be getting for her birthday in a month's time. This is the only level ground we have and it's where we can keep an eye on her.

We've got an adventurous climber on our hands!! Ladybug MUST go up any ladder or piece of furniture she can get to... Trees will be next, as soon as she can manage!!

We have an old orange tree that has perished in the recent drought and rather than cut it down we've decided to crop the crown and use the bole as the support for a jungle gym for Ladybug. We'll put a wooden platform at the top and a ladder to go up and a pole to slide down. Then a few tricky crossbars to swing on for this little biped...

Inputs: timber, various ironmongery and labour.

Estimated cost: £350

Time to complete: 1 week

The Old Pear Tree is right outside our back door and has the best shade in the garden. The tree needs a severe trim to be safe as it has many dead branches and then a swing can be placed there. The area in the shade of the tree will be cleared to make space for a sandpit and a small person's table and chairs. It will become an ideal spot for all mucky, muddy, messy outdoor activities and once the tree is trimmed it can be investigated for a possibility of a tree house for Ladybug when she's a bit older.

Inputs: Labour, Petrol chain saw, sand, timber, plastic table and chairs/bench, swing with long chains.

Estimated cost: £ 600

Time to complete: 1 week
