Hello everyone. My name is Doina, I am 33 years old and I live in Bucharest, Romania.

A few months ago I ran into a desperate family in dire need of assistance. While returning from the Market one day, I met a Mother waiting by a local Church, hoping to receive any type of food donations she could find.
What got my attention was that she didn't fit the profile of the typical Romanian beggar. She wasn't loud or offensive. She wasnt pushy or demanding. She didnt stop people on the street asking for anything. She just stood silently by a fence, shamefully looking down, and hoping for any handout that would keep her children from starving that day. Yes, she has children, as I would come to learn later on. Five children to be exact. Five beautiful and surprisingly healthy little angels. She lives with her children and husband in a incredibly small and desolate annex of the Garbage room in a building close to the church. I wasn't the first person on the street to ask her questions, actually several others seem interested, but she was willing to answer my questions, being visibly ashamed of her situation. Since I was on my way home, returning from the local Farmers Market, I gave her a little from what I had bought there. I asked her to please tell me where I could find her? I wanted to know where did she live, so that I might help her more when I could. Thats how I learned about her living conditions and all of the circumstances that had recently affected her life.

She and her Husband had led a pretty normal life until a set of unfortunate circumstances changed their lives, forever. Having five children, she was a "stay
at home" Mom. Her husband was a Professional Welder, and was earning a very good weekly paycheck. At some point, his company secured some construction contracts somewhere in the Middle East, and the Company wanted to send him there for a long period of time. He was not only afraid of the safety concerns about working in that part of the world, but also very concerned that his children would be without a Father for extended periods of time.
This prompted him to refuse the job transfer, and therefore lose his job with the Company. He managed to find another job very quickly, because it seems he was a very qualified worker. Unfortunately the company he found work at wasn't a big company like the old one, and they were unable to pay him a salary according to his skill level and the work he was doing. He had no choice but to accept to work with no Work Contract. That meant no Benefits, and no Medical Insurance. Then a little over one year ago, he suffered a horrible accident at his work place. There was a fire and an explosion. He was badly injured and burned. He was in the hospital for almost six months. His Medical care was being paid for by the Government, through a Social Emergency Care program. Unfortunately in our country, thats not enough, and little gifts towards the Doctors and Nurses are "expected" and "required" to insure a decent medical care for a patient. All of this naturally drained the family savings, and not having any income, it caused them lose the house they had contracted to buy through a Bank. They were unable to make any payment for months and months. The father still tries to find work, but its very difficult for him because as a result of the accident, his vision is now impaired, and all he can find is non qualified labor, which pays next to nothing. Because of that they cant afford to pay rent, and there are many days in which they have no food for their family.

Their present living conditions are so horrendous...that it is truly too difficult to accurately describe! All I can say is that NO "living creature" should have to live like that, ESPECIALLY human beings, and particularly five innocent and defenseless little children. I must tell you that the room they live in is... simply.... "unlivable". Im not sure that's a word, but English is not my first language, so I am trying to do my best, and ask for your tolerance with my vocabulary.

The oldest of the five little Angels is almost six years old, and she should be starting school next school year, but I dont see her doing that considering their present situation. Then there is a pair of four year old twins, both boys, and a pair of three year old twins, one a boy, and the other a girl.

My ultimate goal is to help them get out of this horrible Garbage infested room, and hopefully find them a new home to raise their children. I also hope to help the Mother have some training in a Skilled Trade, so she can find a decent job, and support her family.

I realize that maybe my goal seems unrealistic, and that there is always the risk that some may think this is some type of fundraising Scam, but all I have to put on the table is my Word, and my good faith in Humanity.
I am trying to respect their privacy and dignity as much as possible. The Society in our Country tends to label and exclude people in need. I think that the last thing this family needs is exclusion or ridicule. I just wish to offer them a fresh start, free of shame and public mocking. This is especially important for the children, as they will hopefully begin school in the near future.

For anyone who needs or wants more information about this, I am at your disposal through my e-mail address. I am willing and ready to provide national ID, and any other information about me that you would need to verify the authenticity of my request for funding. I can be reached by mail at: [email protected]

I know there are many such needy families in this World, and this is just one of many, but I would like to think that, people like you and I, could be able to make a difference in this world, without getting publicity or attention or even a thank you. Knowing that I was able to help just one family live decently on this Earth would be the greatest Thank You, and me being one of the few to know about this will be more than enough.

My long term plan is to help them find a small home somewhere in a nearby village. Just a one room apartment in Bucharest is VERY expensive! With the same amount of money, they could have a two or three bedroom house in a village somewhere close to a city, along with a yard to grow vegetables and enough space to raise animals for their personal use.

I am not setting a specific goal for this fundraiser! ! am just hoping that even one Dollar at a time, from many people with big hearts out there, will have a significant impact on the lives of these poor and deserving people.

I want to Thank You for taking the time to read this, and also Thank You for your consideration and your priceless donations.
In this age of Global communications, and Worldwide prosperity, I would like to believe that simple, common "Humanity" still exists, and is important enough to many, who feel the same as I do. Thank you, so much, and may God Bless!
