When my Parents purchased their first home in 2000, I was 9 years old. It was one of the most magical moments of my childhood. We were all so happy- it was perfect. Ten years later, the worst thing imaginable happened. My father had astroke in the middle of the night. He was rushed to the emergency room and was later moved to a nursing home. Not much later, he had a second stroke that left him permanently disabled. My mother and I were devastated. Now, she visits my father every week, without fail. She is the most faithful woman I have ever met. Unfortunately, after that, she couldn't afford to live in the house on her own. To help cover the mortgage, I moved in with her. A year later, Hurricane Irene hit the town of Bennington. Our house did not suffer any damage during the storm, but shortly after, we discovered water coming up from the ground into our front yard. The town came over and inspected the leak, and it was discovered that the water line had burst. However, the crack was coming from our side- not the town’s- so they refused to do anything about it. We couldn’t afford to fix it, and we had to shut the water off, so we were forced to vacate our home. In January of 2014 we learned that there was some kind of water leak from unknown sources and the entire second floor of the house had caved into the living room on the ground floor. My mom moved to a mobile home community in Pownal that she seemed to be happy in. Later on, during the Winter, the roof over her front porchcollapsed from the weight of the snow (her landlords were supposed to remove the snow, but it was too late). Some of her patio furniture did not survive the crash. After a while she moved into a new trailer up the road. This one was much better than the last (or so we thought). In August of 2013 she was outside on her back porch when, all of a sudden, the floor caved in underneath her and she fell through. It was confirmed by her doctor that she had fractured her elbow and may have permanent nerve damage. She will be finding out soon whether or not she will need surgery. She is beyond depressed, since this injury has made her unable to hold her grandchildren without pain. She is now unemployed and on disability since she unable to work.On top of all of this, it is even more difficult for her to visit her grandbabies because of the vehicle she is driving. It has a huge gas leak, and other issues. We predict that it won’t be on the road for much longer.I feel this is all too much for a 61 year old woman to endure in such a short amount of time. My Mother is the most generous and loving woman in the world, and it hurts me to see her suffer like this. She has gone through so much already and she deserves so much better. I would love to see her be able to move to Florida with my Dad and her younger Sister in the next year or two but she would need the funds to do so. If you could help her cause in any way possible, it would be immensely appreciated by our family!!!
