Please help Lei Anne so she can forget about being raped and focus on her son Rei Aki. Let’s make her healthy so she can provide a good future for her son.
She was raped and because of the incident her family had disowned her because she failed to abort the child saying it was a disgrace to the family. She is now financially struggling but need to have gallbladder removal and PTSD treatment ASAP. They are malnourished and need to have a regular diet.
She wishes to put up a small food restaurant so they can have a better income source.
I have a daughter of my own so my assistance to her is limited. Please help me help her. Please extend your prayers and support. Please share as many times as you can! Thank you all.
As part of our hospital’s maternity charity package Lei Anne was sent to me for checkup after bloodwork showed she was on borderline to having hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid) due to her pregnancy. I wrote a prescription for levothyroxine and she immediately asked how much it was and said she might not be able to buy it. I asked why she was on charity because she didn’t look like she was broke.
I learned that she was raped and because of the incident her family had disowned her because she failed to abort the child saying it was a disgrace to the family. She was only on her savings after the incident since she couldn’t get a job because pregnant women may have symptoms which may prevent them from getting to work on time and will take a leave when the baby is due. With so many other non-pregnant applicants she didn’t stand a chance even though she had been working for over 15 years.
Her mother was her only emotional support as her father has already died. On her next visit, she reported that a friend sponsored getting the thyroid meds for her and she was taking them as prescribed. I wrote a bloodwork request to check if the doses were working and she asked if she could just get the TSH and not the FT4 test because it was expensive. She also said fare to the hospital will also be a problem since she has to take the cab as her belly is getting heavier. I offered to just get a message about the result and we’ll go from there. The result was okay she was on good levels so that was the last time I saw her.
She messaged me next asking if I knew a couple who could adopt her son. She didn’t have anyone helping her and she wanted to make sure he had a good future. I told her I personally don’t know anyone then.
I gave birth to my daughter and was on leave for a while. One day, I received a picture message from her on viber with her son saying she has decided to keep him. I congratulated her. I replied to this message a few weeks after and didn’t get a reply. Later I learned that she sold her hand-me-down iphone for $50.
The next time I saw her was when she tried to get a sonogram for her gallbladder. She said it had become painful like when her father died because her mother had just died too. She expressed worry at possible surgical expenses saying she had been advised to get it removed two years ago and she didn’t because she is allergic to painkillers and fear that the surgery will leave painful wounds. I told her she didn’t have to get an open surgery for removing the gallbladder and that it is safer to have the surgery before any rupture happens.
When I asked her why she didn’t come back for the routine post-natal checks, she said it was because it was really hard without anyone and because of financial reasons. She says she can’t travel that far on public transport with a baby who has not had enough vaccines. I understand her because my daughter is just two months younger than her son.
Compared to the picture I have here, she had already lost a lot of weight, was very pale and had rashes so I asked how they are feeling as I checked on her son. She says she might have allergy because of gallstones in her liver. I asked her what they ate for breakfast or lunch and she hesitated for a bit and replied they have not eaten lunch yet and have eaten instant oats for breakfast. She says she had bought a ton of instant oats with her last drop of savings to promote milk production and they still have about 600g left. Oats are good. Fiber, protein, omega-3… but not every day all day.
I asked what kind of work she has now and she said that because she can’t afford a nanny yet, she has resorted to paid to click sites because she can’t commit to fixed hours of the day. I have a nanny and a husband and I barely have time for myself. When I had just given birth all I had time for was feed my daughter. She has to do everything by herself. Laundry, cleaning, everything! If you’ve heard about PTC sites, it usually takes some time to earn enough.
They were both malnourished. Because I also have a child almost the same age, my heart hurts thinking of a crying hungry baby. I asked them to wait for me (it was almost 5pm and I will get off work). I then took them to the nearby mall and bought a chicken meal. They ate heartily and it was obvious they were hungry. We then went to the pharmacy and I bought vitamins and diapers for Rei Aki. I gave her some pocket money so she can come back to get her gallbladder checked.
Her son is very smart. She had taught him to sign and after eating chicken he signed “milk” and she breastfed him right there. I think that’s amazing for a 7-month old baby. She says she is thankful he didn’t get aborted because she would have denied the world a future scientist or leader. I would really hate to know that Rei didn’t go to school or got sick because they had no money.
I would love to help them but as it is, I am a charity doctor and I have my own child to support so I am reaching out to your kind hearts to help her forget about being disowned because she was raped and just focus on being a mom.
First, we need to raise funds for her cholecystectomy $17,800. She needs to have it ASAP. Second, she needs to go through counselling to get through the trauma of her incident. PTSD treatment around $8,000. Because our society frowns upon rape victims she has not spoken freely about it and has not received treatment. She has been showing symptoms of PTSD and it is advisable to have it managed as she is now a mom.
She also mentioned that she would put up a congee and dumpling restaurant if she had the funds - $40,000 startup for small food business - after we reach our medical fund target.
Please help me help her. Please extend your prayers and support. Please share as many times as you can! Her son deserves to be with his mom longer. Thank you all!
