A Gym for the Children of Kibera

Hi, my name is Salim Oboch. I am the founder of ARK of KIBERA’s YOUTH (AKY), a registered community based voluntary organization located in the slums of Kibera, Nairobi/Kenya. We are committed to enabling the future generation fight poverty, violence and hopelessness: Our goal is to empower socially disadvantaged kids and teenagers develop physical and emotional strength by nurturing their confidence and individual talents with a broad education, sports and feeding program.

At our dojo, we offer lessons in martial arts, dancing, aerobics and singing as well as special self-defense courses focusing on gender-based violence for women and disabled people. So far, we have 150 member and above. Since the number of interested children and young adults is rising every day, we want to expand our activities: we plan to set up a gym, equipped with various sports gear like training bars, Olympic weights, dumbbells, a bench with a rack, multi gyms.
