A GUESTHOUSE WHERE ALL TRAVELLERS CAN STAY FOR A NIGHT FREE OF CHARGE

The greatest feeling of happiness and fulfilment can be found when we do not only live for our own sake, but when we are able to serve others as well. I believe that the world can be changed, new values and a new frame of mind can be formed, where being money-oriented and egoistic is replaced by selflessness and goodness which intertwine human relations. I am a speck of dust on Earth, and my idea may seem like a small step - for which I would like to ask your help – but I am dedicated, and I firmly believe that I am on the right track to – even if only a tiny bit – make this world a better place.

I live in a picturesque village in the centre of Europe in Hungary called Mecsekpölöske. It is hard to find on the map, however it is magnificent, quiet, well-tended village surrounded by forests far away from the hustle and bustle of the city. A real rural gem. Raising livestock, beekeeping and cultivating fields and orchards is what people do here. There is a strong community where everyone knows everyone. The region’s industrial strength was coal mining; however, since the mines had been closed a significant change of mind-set has taken place. The unique environment of Mecsek (mountain range in southern Hungary) and the value of its natural treasures got emphasized. Hospitality, tourism in and around the village became an important factor. I would like to use this opportunity and start my career in rural tourism.

I have a 4500m2 of land atop the hill, with unrivalled view to the whole valley. That is where I would like a guest house complex to be built, consisting of three or four buildings with all modern conveniences. One of which is the abovementioned guesthouse, where all travellers – regardless of which part of the world they come from - can stay for one night free of charge.I am an environmentally responsible person, I intend to use as much reused and recycled material as possible for the construction. For this reason, I plan to build the superstructure using shipping containers and the face-work from pallets. I want to minimise the CO2 emission, hot water and heating will be generated by solar energy. I would like the footpaths to be built using reclaimed bricks and the walls from freestone.

I go hiking a lot, I have been to many countries and wherever I went I have always been enthralled by the hospitality and how they welcome foreign tourists. I want visitors to experience the same hospitality and to get to know my country, the region’s distinct characteristics and sights.

I have a little capital, but it is not enough to begin my project. That is why I believe in the power of community and I hope I will be able to execute my plan.
