My father, JOEL VILLARUEL, who is also a doting grandfather, was recently diagnosed with Advanced Non-Small Cell Lung Carcinoma and is currently being treated with combined chemotherapy and targeted therapy.

Around September 2023, he started having pain on his lower back and we thought it was only a degenerative back pain given that he is already 69 years old. Then came a time that he suspected it for kidney stones, since he suffered the same kind of pain before he underwent a shockwave treatment few years ago. We brought him to the National Kidney and Transplant Institute on the night of December 30 and was discharged around 5 AM the next day with some imaging and laboratory requests from the resident physician.

January 6, we consulted an Ortho physician, and from the imaging results, he requested for an additional chest CT Scan...... And that's when our family's nightmare began...... The CT Scan result showed that my father has an almost 3 cm lung mass and that his thoracic spine (T9 and T11) was already affected, which is probably the reason for his quite unbearable back pain. Before January ended, it was confirmed that he has lung cancer after undergoing a CT-guided biopsy at the Lung Center of the Philippines.

Fast forward to this day, my father already had his first session of chemotherapy which cost almost Php 48,000, and has been taking his oral medication (Tagrisso) which cost almost Php 3,000 per tablet.

As advised by his Oncologist, he will be undergoing a total of 6 chemo sessions and he'll be taking Tagrisso everyday as long as it is working for him.

Given that scenario, my parents' monthly pension and my monthly salary won't be able to cover such large amount of expense because my mother also has her own maintainance medicines for diabetes and ulcerative colitis, which are also a bit pricey.

I am now knocking on your kind and generous hearts for any amount that you can spare for my father's continous medications. As a daughter, my only wish is for his complete healing and for him to enjoy and live a quality life.
