Extending a helping friend to a friend in need

Hi I am starting this campaign on behalf of a friend - a good friend whom I have known for many years.

I am writing this with certain level of anonymity as I would like to keep my complete identity confidential. I do not wish for my friend to know that I am doing this for him, as he is a stubborn and strong willed person who is unlikely to seek help even when he does need one.

I would have helped him myself (in full); however, I have my own family obligations and not able to provide full assistance. Hence, I am turning to crowdfunding to seek help for a friend.

My friend John (not his real name) is a stubborn individual who values his 'face' alot. He often give money to church people who needs them for school and medical bills. I was one of the many he had helped before - providing me money for my ACCA course. My father was a gambler and I had to support my family and pay off his debts - those were tough days.

John is now in need - financially and emotionally.

1. He lost his job and is now back in school to get a 'Degree in IT' - so that he can remain employable. Recently I knew that he had used his school fees to help another friend who was being chased by loan shark for some debts. He could not afford his fees and is likely to have to withdraw soon if he does not have the fees ready.

2. Incidentally, his wife is pregnant and will be birthing soon - so he will need a good sum of money.

3. He had previously invested S$50,000 in a 'hostel business' in Myanmar with 4 other partners. Instead of ensuring that the investment are implemented properly; I heard 1 of his partner 'disappeared' with the money. His 3 other partners are planning to file for police report. However, the loss of money is not the real problem. The friend that he had trusted with the investment had also taken loan from many people amounting to S$300,000 and purchased alot of machinery with loan using John's name as well as the other partners. So now all of them are heavily in debt.

4. Because of all these, I know John have been seeing a psychiatrist due depression (though he keeps it quiet, but the social circle is small...).

I would really want to help him for all, but I cannot, and the full amount is really not realistic to raise.

As such, I was thinking of raising some money for his school fees and wife's birthing, at least a small help to get him to a start to manage the other problems. Hope to get some compassion and help from folks here. The sum would likely be in the region of $20,000; however, I will contribute $15,000 - but will need help for the balance.

First time trying this out. I am not intending to let John know of this fundraising.
