A Gift For An Angel
This campaign and project is dedicated to my 6-year old daughter Angel, who is Thai/American. She is the joy of my life, and the lives of many others. I am her 67-year old father (American) who wishes to secure her future by finishing her unfinished home and starting three businesses to support her and her Thai family. I am reaching out to family, current friends, former friends, colleagues (past and present), professional acquaintances, the Church, and anyone I can.
We live in a small village in northern Thailand, where I bought Angel a farm of 4.2 rai. Since December of 2019, I built Angel a home with two finished bedrooms and two baths, and an outdoor kitchen. We still need electric to Angel’s home, which will cost about 100,000 THB (about $3,200 USD) because we are two km from town. But we do have a well with good water, but undrinkable without treatment. We also have a diesel electric-generator (good for a few hours per day) and several solar-cell lights which help at night.
I have spent all my savings of about 1.3 million THB (about $40,000 USD) so far on Angel’s home, but we still have about 300,000 THB ($10,000 USD) of work to do before Angel has a nice home and three functioning businesses to support her and her Thai family.
Normally, I could save that amount in six months. I am a math teacher but I am out of work this school year – partially due to Covid-19, and partially due to my age. I believe I can still work and do a very good job teaching, but I have not had success finding a job. My retirement income will not provide for all the family, and pay the bills. I must start businesses so they will have a way to make money when I am gone.
Our Need: 300,000 THB ($10,000 USD)
Beyond adding electricity, I want to start building three businesses—Angels Pizza, Angels Home-Stay, and Angels Vitamin-C Clinic (with the help of a couple of local nurses).
First, I want to build a brick, wood-burning oven for pizza. There are a lot of young people here and they love pizza; the daily Thai market sells Thai pizzas (not the same), and the nearest pizza shop is about 60 km away. The pizza business will support the building of the second and third businesses. In time, I want to add 4 more bedrooms and two more bathrooms for a home-stay (resort). Those rooms will also be used for our Vitamin-C Clinic. Fortunately, I have a lot of leftover building materials which will cut my cost.
The businesses will not only provide for Angels future (education), but they will also provide work for her entire family, beyond rice and sugar cane farming. Angel wants to be a veterinarian.
The immediate area has a population of slightly more than 15,000 people. Within a 25 km radius, there are well over 50,000 people. Most people in the immediate area make a living farming rice, sugar-cane, or running small shops. People take care of each other here, but education is poor and there is not much future for the unskilled and poorly educated beyond farming a small plot of land.
I want my Angel to have a better future than her Daddy can give her. I know that times are very difficult now, but your help in any amount will be enormously appreciated. Without it, unless a miracle teaching job comes my way, I will have to return to America and leave my precious Angel. If she did not love her Daddy so much, it would be a lot easier to go home to the US where I might be able to find a teaching job -- and support Angel and the family from there. Thank you for reading my project-funding request. If you are to help, that is wonderful. If you are not able to help, that is alright and I do understand.
Please have a look at the videos, and meet Angel if you do not already know her.
