St. Peter’s Secondary School in Bombo Kalule

The story of "our" school sounds like an African fairy tale. The mother of school founder Ronald Mulondo died early and left her children destitute. As a 20-year old, Ronald took over the role as patriarch and provider of his family and siblings.

Thanks to a supporter from Germany, he was able to complete his studies. He took part in a radio quiz and, indeed, he won the first prize: a patch of land that he wanted to use to build a school. He started to build the school in 2010. Far more than half of the 360 students are orphans who are unable to pay school fees.

The school startet in 2010. Until the year of 2013, an area north of the school could be used for sports. Unfortunately it was sold and the new owner wants to be paid for usage.

The area south of the school belongs to the former professional football player of uganda, Chris Mubiru. He is a grandson of the regent to king David chwa the grandfather to the present King Kabaka. He signed the land over to the school under the condition that a football-field will be built there.

Most of the work can be done by pupils and teachers, but material, sand and the goals have to be bought as well as tools.

Next, I got experts in making fields, who told us we need more 10 meters into the papyrus, to make a standard field of 75 by 100-120 meters. But the cost, involving buying and transporting more soil( about 500 trips), hire of loader tractor, clearing tractor and grader, fuel, and labour was calculated at 22 million before grass and poles, another calculated at 21.9 million, and the third one 24.2 million! I got scared of these totals! The breakdown will be brought later. Buying of grass and transport can take about 550,000(estimate) and we can plant it ourselves. The goal poles depend on quality of materials, the most expensive for water pipes and behind supports are 1.820,000 for both, and cheapest at 962,000.
