A Father’s Story ; Medical Assistance

Update posted by Bianca Marie Calomarde On Jul 08, 2016

Today,July 8, 2016 marks the last day of the second week that we have been in the limbo and yesterday we finally had an answer. Our beloved papa Jed’s angioplasty yesterday was not as successful as we could have hoped for. The doctor tried for more than 2 hours to be able to get through the blockage so that they can push through the balloon and the stent. Unfortunately the plaque was already hard and the doctor did not want to compromise papa’s safety because he might accidentally rupture the artery if he persistently tries the toughest wire which might cause him to do emergency bypass. He was able to traverse almost 1/4 of the blockage but he could not go on any longer. If I can quote him “we should know when to stop, so we do not jeopardize your fathers stable bp and heart rate”. We were shown the video of how they tried to do everything, explained to us the ways that they did it. It did not sink in, my mind tried so hard to be in that denial stage but when the doctor looked at me to shake my hand, I could not help it, I cried. The doctor wasn’t sure what to do but just gave me a comforting hug instead. I was so sure that it would be successful, friends and families helped us in ways we could not imagine to the point that it was almost impossible with their willingly given finances, advices and other means. I was so sure that if we can go through that stage of pooling in resources to push through with the operation and with all these prayers pouring in, I was so ready to hug papa and say that everything was successful.

I could not let papa see me so disheartened that I did what i could to stop crying and greet him in the waiting area. I told him that we are okay. We cannot let this bump be a reason for us to lose focus on the true goal of having papa return to his healthy state. As much as I could muster, I told him that still, we cannot lose faith, we have to trust more and worry less. At least we know now where we stand, that the change for a healthier lifestyle is indeed immediately needed. The doctor’s assessment was that we will have to stick with the complete branded medications that he has here in the hospital so we can make sure that it would not happen for the meantime and that we need to follow strictly his healthy diet. I did all I could do so that papa would not dwell so much on the negative side of everything that has happened. I could not let the result hamper the blessings that we have received all throughout this ordeal.

Although the news came with a tidal wave of disappointment and sadness, I cannot let it get to me. I cannot question God’s reasons and plans. I do not have the right to get mad because He has guided us through up until today. He helped us see that whatever happens, if you did good to the people you have came across with, it will always return back to you. Our families friends, schoolmates since elementary, workmates, relatives from here and abroad, our immediate family, these people have gone through ways and beyond what they could to extend us their helping hand. We could not have ask for any more than what we have been shown by the people who loves us and most especially papa. To all the people who have helped us, who prayed for us, who visited us, in behalf of papa and the rest of my family, from the bottom of our hearts, our sincerest gratitude to all of you. You will always be included in our prayers. We wont and we will never forget what you have done for us.

We will now start with the second part of our journey, the monthly medications that we need to finance and the healthy lifestyle we have to take effect immediately.
