In May of 2016, a father discovered a severe burn on his son's leg. He reported his findings to DHR were the child resided with his mother. Shortly thereafter, DHR indicated abuse & neglect & removed the child from his mother's home. The father called repeatedly concerned for his son's safety because the child was placed in the maternal grandmother's home just one breezeway over from the mother who'd inflicted this abuse. He provided everything the case worker said was necessary for him to obtain custody of his son. However, he was constantly given the run around. We learned that this particular county's DHR system & judicial system are notorious for not following proper protocol. I am establishing this campaign on his behalf to retain an appeals attorney after this father's superior rights were violated by DHR & the circuit court judge by allowing the maternal grandmother to retain custody of his son. Even after being provided with numerous of pictures, videos & social media post proving that the maternal grandmother was present when the abuse occurred, did not seek medical care for the child, admitted to a judge that she doesn't see any issues with the child watching his mom drink 22 shots of alcohol nor him passing her shots & that she was allowing the child to live with his mother against the case worker & judges strict supervised visitation order. The judge took this child from spending alternating weeks with his father, sleeping in his own bed & not sharing one with his grandmother & brother, attending extra curricular activities & character building activities to only weekends to secure the grandmother's interest. This child has been exposed to many instances of abuse since birth. He has been in the system since 2 weeks of age because of his mother's & grandmother's negligence when the father would be at work. This father has fought tirelessly for his son's life for years. However, there's a preconceived notion that father's are incapable of nurturing their children & for this reason the system has repeatedly put this child at risk. Despite the father proving that he's free of a criminal record, has maintained the same job for years, he's a homeowner in a well respected neighborhood & has undoubtedly taken care of his son since birth. We have only 30 days to appeal this miscarriage of justice & allow this child a chance to thrive, to be placed in his father's home where he will be safe, in a well respected neighborhood, attending a school that is highly recommended, with his own room & all of the love he deserves. I write this in great hope that this is the start of a better life for this child
