Campaign Story
Kenya's electioneering process is characterized by violent conflicts with the 2007/8 witnessing more than 1000 lives lost and over 100,000 households displaced.
Mukuru peace clubs was introduced in 2013 by FECCLAHA an ecumenical organization as a forum in an urban slum to support youths transition from being either victims or perpetrators of violence to peace ambassadors who shape a culture of nonviolence.
53 youths were trained in conflict transformation, peace clubs formation, governance and entrepreneurship. Right now the forum has grown to include over 2000 youths while being replicated in the lake region and horn of Africa bringing together over 10,000 youth peace ambassadors.
In Kenya the peace clubs have contributed to peace before, during and after two general elections. There are 11 registered peace clubs and 9 business start ups created. For sustainable peace there is need to scale up the created enterprises to enable the youths be reliant while also creating opportunities for more youths to earn an income while contributing to peace for a wholistic approach to peace.
The Mukuru peace clubs thus do embark on a journey to raise 6000 US dollars to establish a tilapia fish cage farming business whose profit after every 8 months would be a revolving fund base to support scale up 3 business ideas every year. We believe in being trained to fish rather than receiving a fish for a day and uncertainty and vulnerability tomorrow.
