A different Christmas – funding in favor of Echo 100 plus

This NGO has been present in the field since March 2016, 2 weeks after the camp was settled. They are currently in charge of the warehouse and food distribution in the camp. Also operating in the camp are Red Cross, Lighthouse Relief, I am you and Cafe Rits. The camp hosts more then 700 people, of which many are children and babies.

As you may imagine, life in ritsona is hard: located in a area where there is nothing else, the nearest town is 15 minutes away only reachable by car. Until now families have lived and slept in UNHCR tents with mattresses and blankets and I am sure you can imagine the conditions and chaos they suffered when weather was rainy, cold and windy. This is not the life any human being deserves and of course not the life they expected when they risked their lifes and their sons to cross the sea aiming a better life.

Currently Isoboxes have been installed for each family. They protect the cold and the rain, but still many families are left small because they do not have room for all the belongings that have been receiving during their 8 months already in the camp.

Despite all the donations received, there is still the need of sleeping bags, blankets, children's socks,etc. All of them materials to help them living in winter in a more bearable way, if we could say so. All these families, middle class people in their country of origin, with a job, a home, a life and many future plans, have been since more than 8 months confined in a camp having to beg for food, clothing and a roof and with no expectation of improving this situation in the near future. All those hops they put in crossin the Aegean Sea have been truncated for them and exchanged now for the uncertainty as their companion of life.
