Golf is a 35-year-old HIV-positive man who was born in a small province called Nakhonphathom in central Thailand. When he was diagnosed with the virus, it was already too late. A series of infections had caused permanent brain damage and had led to the loss of his right eye.

Golf’s parents abandoned him to his fate when he was still very young. But his sister, Nonglak, has always been there to take care of Golf and help him.

When Nonglak was given the news that her brother was sick, she took him into her home, despite the fact that she was also supporting her elderly mother. During the day, Nonglak worked to earn enough money to support them all. She also continued to work at home: cooking, cleaning, and organizing everything that an HIV-positive patient needs.

Unfortunately, due to the high cost of medicine, Golf’s condition worsened. He started to lose the ability to speak and displayed aggressive behavior, which he had never done before.

Fearing for her safety, Nonglak contacted numerous HIV associations in Thailand, but she was denied help of any kind. The only option left was to bring Golf to a temple, located 200 km away, where HIV-positive patients are given food and a place to sleep. In essence, they are left waiting for their lives to end.

In 2019, Golf was brought to the temple and accommodated alongside another HIV-positive patient, called Nay. The two became close friends, and Nay, who was still mentally strong, took care of Golf like a brother. He helped him to eat (Golf lost the use of his right arm) and reported what was happening at the temple to Golf’s sisters.

Sadly, the treatments offered at the temple are far from adequate. The temple has even stopped giving Golf anti-HIV meds, claiming that “his body would reject them.”

Golf cannot speak or express what he feels. Only Nay, who knows Golf so very well, understands that he is suffering from terrible headaches and pain and that no one is doing anything to help him.

Because of his mental issues, Golf has been deemed a risk. Sadly, from the 4th of November, he will no longer be allowed to stay at the temple.

Through this fundraising drive, we want to give Golf and Nay a quiet place to live and the treatments they deserve to alleviate their agony.

The funds will help to:

  • Find a small house for Golf and Nay in the provinces near Bangkok.
  • Organize and pay for food and medications.
  • Enable them to set up a small fruit business in front of the house so that they can, hopefully, support themselves in the future.

Any donation would be appreciated.

Thank you very much.
