AFTER DEATH • AFTER DAWN

Grief. It's not something everyone likes to think about right? But we believe that grief, something that we as human beings all feel in different ways, needs to be heard.

Family. The group of people that influence our lives in ways we can't even imagine. We all interact with our families and its members in different ways, but what happens when there is a death in the family? How do we interact during our grief? What kinds of conflicts arise? How do we work through these?

Who Are We?

We are a student film crew at the Cape Town campus of AFDA, the leading film school in Africa, in the midst of producing a 10-minute long experimental short film, as part of our graduating year.

We have all gone through periods of grief in our lives, and we want to show others that it's ok to grieve, and that everyone grieves in different ways. Grief is real and grief needs to be heard, and when we embrace that, we are able to begin the journey of dealing with the different and confusing aspects of our individual grief.

We also want to show that it's ok not to get a sense of closure right away; sometimes the grief doesn't go away, and that's a real part of life and what it throws at us. How we take these things, or how we throw them back at life, is all up to us.

We want our audience to realize, most of all, that they should love, appreciate and care for the people around them.

More About the Project:

The film is classified as a Family Melodramatic Comedy, as it incorporates elements of the genres of Drama, Comedy, and Family Melodrama. However, these elements will be explored in a slightly more unconventional way.

The film looks at aspects of relationships within a family dynamic, as well as how internal and external conflicts are dealt with on an individual and collective basis, as well as exploring the idea of living after death and how to cope when something so intrinsically part of your life is suddenly gone.

Our Milestones:

We are aiming to raise a mere R8000, but our dream goal is to raise as much, if not more, as we can!

This seemingly small amount will ultimately allow us to to fund the hiring of equipment, purchasing of set and props requirements, and the feeding and transporting of crew and cast.

With everyone's individual contributions, this will assist to in making the best possible film that we can!

With love.
