A Chance to Breathe

On my 31 week of pregnancy I unexpectedly experienced severe abdominal pain and vaginal bleeding. I was brought to the nearest hospital and the doctors found out my placenta was prematurely separated from the uterus causing distress to my unborn child. The doctors then decided to perform caesarean section to save me and my baby.

Since it was a preterm birth, complications arose. My baby Toshiru's lungs are not yet fully developed, his lungs did not produce a sufficient amount of surfactant, a substance that keeps the tiny air sacs in the lungs open. This condition makes it hard for my son to breathe.

He's in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and in a critical condition, with tubes and wires attached to his tiny body, little Toshiro is fighting for his life. A device called CPAP helps Toshiro breathe or breathe for him.

The medical team explained that my son needs a synthetic lung surfactant immediately, however it is costly and is not readily available in hospitals and need to be ordered directly from a pharmaceutical company hence we need cash to be able to buy the said surfactant. One vial costs not lower than P40,000 pesos and baby Toshiro needs a lot of shots untill his lungs is fully developed. we are really in dire financial need, so I'm knocking on kind hearted souls to help pay baby Toshiro's treatment, we truly need all the help we can get. Every cent and every prayer counts.
