A Call for Help: Joanne’s Fight Against Colorectal Cancer

After more than 3 years of being diagnosed with Colorectal Cancer, Joanne has been steadfast in her faith to live each day with the unwavering strength and positivity to overcome the challenges and pains of her medical condition. Being a working mom and a breadwinner in the family for over 20 years now, the idea of carrying a chronic illness is certainly a hard thing to bear and continues to be a test of faith to keep going every single day.

Through the help of her company and some generous friends, Joanne was able to go through this journey and get all the possible medical support that she needs in her treatment plan (radiation therapy, chemotherapy sessions, and surgery). Despite these procedures, the challenges of the Big C continue to take over, manifesting an aggressive growth which consequently affected the other organs of her body. On July 29, 2019, she was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney disease with acute kidney injury and was finally confined in the hospital to receive an immediate dialysis procedure to control the high creatinine and potassium level in her blood. She has to go through dialysis 3x a week to manage her condition. Following this are other significant findings as well (acute deep vein thrombosis, complicated UTI and hypertension). Her recent CT scan also revealed a growing mass in the rectal area and a blockage in her bladder that affected her normal urine flow. After series of discussions, the medical team’s outlook seems to be indefinite as to how long they will need to hold Joanne in the hospital to undergo all her treatments. This is an ongoing challenge for the family, considering that the mother and primary provider is now lying in the hospital bed, mustering all her strength to continue the fight for her recovery.

Today, August 11 – we are honoring the birthday of this great woman and cancer warrior who continues to inspire us every single day. We may not exactly express the amount of pain that she has to go through, but we believe that our collective prayers, love, and acts of kindness can certainly support her in her quest for healing.
