A boy with a dream

Hello everyone!

My name is Pasang Kaji Sherpa. I was born in Solukhumbu district, in Juving, a remote village in Nepal. My illiterate parents had no money to educate us four boys. Luckily, I was sponsored all the way through school at Shree Mangal Dvip Boarding School, which was founded to address the needs of poor Himalayan kids like me and my brothers. Having completed Grade 10 at Shree Mangal Dvip Boarding School in Kathmandu, I was then really fortunate to gain a full scholarship for a two-year IB Diploma course at the Inter-Community School in Zurich. I left everything I knew to get higher education and pursue my dream: improving agricultural conditions for farmers in Nepal and developing a more sustainable environment. I hope to help farmers optimize agricultural production to fight for food scarcity and make the best use of natural resources.

With that dream and hope in mind, I worked hard to complete my IB exams. I have just been accepted for a 4-year study in bioeconomic engineering at Hame University of Applied Science in Finland.

With a bioeconomic engineering degree, I will learn how to integrate technology and manage natural resources through various development projects. I want to contribute towards the development of Nepal, and give back to my community. This degree will expand my horizon on how to use technology in the agriculture industry and optimize crop yields sustainably. I want to adapt what I learn to the particular agricultural conditions in my country and help Nepal become more self-reliant.

Although I have passed a hurdle in securing a place at the university, I now face the next: to have enough money to attend the course. I am very grateful to be supported by the Parents Association of ICSZ and my brother, who will cover part of my tuition fee. (My brother: his name is Phur Tenzin, he was sponsored at SMD , got a scholarship and graduated from the same high school in Zurich. He went to Canada where he finished an engineering degree. He is helping me to achieve my dream)
