A Bike 4 Lily

As my daughter Lily gets older, I'm faced with the reality of high costs to acquire something as basic as a bike designed for her special needs.  Last year I bought her a bike that every other girl her age would typically ride.  She loved it, but couldn't ride it - even though she is 8 she doesn't have the gross motor skills or the strength in her torso and legs to propell the bike.  I'm confident one day she'll be able to ride a traditional "trike", but not for a while. As Aidan gets older I'm finding that I'm unable to devote the time I should to him, and since I can't take Lily with us - so he loses out as well.    I need a way to be able to take Lily along on rides with Aidan and I. Which leads me to ask my friends and family to consider helping to fund a recumbent trailer bike that is designed for children with special needs. The cost will exceed $700.  I've looked at the other traditional (and much cheaper) models, but in Lily's case they wouldn't work for her.  She wouldn't be able to sit upright and frankly it would be dangerous to attempt it.  This model will be perfect for our situation - and has the capacity to grow with her for the next few years.   One of the things I've learned since Lily was born is there is no shame in asking for help, especially where her wellbeing is concerned.  I know there are lots of friends and family out there who are more then willing to help, and generously so.  But I've only suggested a $10 contribution - not very much - and if 65 people give we'll all share in Lily's joy of the great outdoors this summer.
