A Better Home For Nadia and Adi

Hi, everyone.

My name is Ermin. I am a husband, and a father of two, a 7-year-old girl named Nadia, and a five-year-old boy named Adi.

Nadia is your typical girls’ girl – she likes to sing, dance, and dress up in her mommy’s clothes.

On the other hand, Adi is … very loud! That’s the best way to describe him. Whether he’s playing or just talking about his day, he is always shouting! He is very energetic, and it shows, even in his speech.

We live in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The four of us share a 40 m2 (around 440 square feet) flat, that we don’t own, and lately, it has become very obvious that our family has become too big for this home.

Now, the ghosts of terrible wars fought here in the 90-ties still linger in our everyday lives. Although these days nobody’s shooting at us, we still feel the consequences of living in a developing country: the job opportunities are scarce, and the wages are low. I do have a job, thank God, but our monthly income is just about enough to make ends meet. And in our current financial situation, buying a better home for our kids is an unattainable goal.

Let me paint you a picture of what it would take for me to achieve this goal on my own:

A decent apartment for a family of four in Sarajevo costs around 70.000 euros (around 82.000 USD). My monthly paycheck is around 550 euros (650 USD). As you can see, it would take me more than 20 years to save up that kind of money, even if I could put aside half of my paycheck, which I can’t.

Going to a bank for a loan is also not a viable option. Banks here are very reluctant to approve such loans to people with salaries like mine. And even if my loan application got approved, that would still mean that half of my paycheck would go to monthly payments. For a period of 20 to 25 years. And like I said, I can’t afford that.

That’s why we decided to ask for help from kind strangers.

Your donation would help us get closer to our dream. A dream of seeing our kids grow in a more suitable environment. A dream of seeing our kids decorate and play in their own room, instead of being forced to share their space with us. As they get older, their need for privacy will also grow. This is already becoming a problem for Nadia because her baby brother still doesn’t understand that he needs to be quiet while she’s doing her homework.

All the donated funds would be used to finance a purchase of a modest, but suitable home for a family of four. Anything above that would be donated to a local charity.
