A 53-Year Old CKD Patient Undergoing Dialysis

At an early age of 31, my father, Samuel Sy, became a diabetic. It wasn't long before he was diagnosed with CKD and Heart Enlargement. Making matters worse, he also had a history of Tuberculosis due to unfavorable work conditions.

This isn't his first time being rushed to the hospital.

In 2022, the doctors had to remove 1.7 Liters of water from his lungs and 6 Liters from his body to survive. It was a close call, but my dad is a fighter.

Fast forward this year, he did his very best not to undergo dialysis because he knows how expensive it is and that we do not have enough finances to support it. Unfortunately, with his Creatinine level reaching to 5.0, the dialysis is inevitable.

Due to his weak immune system and low blood pressure, his doctor advised him to undergo a Peritoneal Dialysis (PD) to improve his current condition. The surgery alone was costly. Not only to our finances, but also to his health. He even had 2 cardiac arrests, which miraculously, was revived by my mom and his doctors. Because of that, he had an internal bleeding around the stomach region, requiring him 2 bags of B+ blood to recover.

The urgency to give him dialysis forced us to proceed with Hemodialysis (HP), which has to be done multiple times to clean his blood and stabilize his heart. But to do so, he also had to have 4 bags of blood transfused to him.

It has been a week since his stay in the hospital and our bills are not getting any better. Currently we have spent half a million on our medical expenses, which is still ongoing. His medicines and dialysis solutions after his hospital discharge are another thing I have to worry about. We no longer know where to get such money since we have exhausted our remaining funds to keep my father alive.

I'm afraid, if things go bad next month, I might not be able to see my dad walk out from the hospital, nor would I ever see him laugh with us. I don't want him to die alone.

So, I shall say it once again. My father is a fighter and he will do his best to stay alive for his family. For that, I will do my very best to be by his side during his battle. We may not be rich, but no matter what it takes, I will support him just as how he has supported us before.
