I am planning on volunteering in Sri Lanka in Summer of 2020 for 2 weeks where I will be teaching English to the local children and monks and taking part with renovation projects at either a local school, temple or hospital.
I will be working on a painting and renovation program in Ambalangoda, Sri Lanka. During my expedition I will be helping be at a local school, temple or hospital depending on where it is needed at the time. This will involve the whole group of people who are on this experience to work together with the local tradesman.
Then I will then spend my afternoons at the 'community village teaching project' teaching English to a group of around 4-15 children. I have just finished doing a 120-hour TEFL course to ensure that I am able to give these children the best education that I possibly can. This will help them improve their English language to provide them with a powerful stepping stone towards getting better jobs to be able to support themselves and their families in the future.
On one of the afternoons I will be working at the turtle sanctuary to experience the wildlife conservation project. Where there is daily care and rehabilitation for injured or disabled turtles. The end goal in mind to release them back to the wild, as well as protecting turtle eggs that have been stolen by local poachers.
I hope that this experience will develop and encourage me to become more open minded about different cultures and beliefs. I believe that I will experience a different way of living that I never have encountered before. I also hope to cultivate empathy and understanding for groups of people from different ethnicity and faiths and backgrounds to mine which will help me break down barriers that are stereo typically made between myself and the people that I hope to meet. I will hopefully become less biased and more open minded to cultures around the world.
Each donation goes towards these projects to enhance the life quality of the community and the children, by providing either additional resources or meals they could otherwise not afford.
Absolutely anything donated will help me massively :)
Thank you so much!
