There are few Wildlife Rehabilitation Centers on Mexico, and they mostly focus on large or endangered species.
Located on Jalisco, Mexico, at Vida Animal GDL we care about all the small animals that are rejected by large Wildlife Shelters, like hummingbirds, songbirds, doves and more!
We have support from wildlife rehabbers and educators from USA and want to bring the same compassionate culture to Mexico
Here are some of the activities we want to do as a wildlife organization:
- Rescuing, rehabilitating and releasing wildlife.
- Doing presentations with animal embassadors at schools, public and private events.
- Providing a forever loving home for misplaced animals, be it exotic and domestic, or wildlife that can't be released due to special needs or imprinting.
In Mexico we do not have wildlife rehabilitator permits like those on the USA, so for this to be possible we have to register as a UMA (Unidad de Manejo para la Conservación de Vida Silvestre)/Unit for Wildlife Conservation. It is the same permit that breeding facilities, zoos and everyone who works with wildlife need, so it's a quite expensive procedure with a lot of paperwork to be done, we also have to pay a licensed biologist or veterinarian that has to be accepted by SEMARNAT to be the responsible technician.
