Perseverance, dedication and a heart of gold. This sums up Joanie Fredericks, a change agent and activist from Tafelsig, Mitchells Plain, Cape Town.
Most recently Joanie also started Tafelsig, Mitchels Plain SE Can – to address the arising hunger situation that surfaced in their community during the Covid-19 LockDown. She also started the Lockdown Baby Club providing newborn essentials to less fortunate moms giving birth during quarantine.

With all these project’s Joanie’s heart is to empower the people of the community and equipping them to be active agents of change too, so that they can together make a difference and see the community flourish!
Food-insecure households are likely more susceptible to contracting COVID-19 due to lesser access to adequate health care, lower resistance or compromised immune systems, stigma or bias, or lack of information about proper prevention and care.
You can join others who have heeded our call, such as Siya Kolisi, Pres. Cyril Ramaphosa, mayor Dan Plato and many others, and help us to provide hot meals to thousands of children and adults who are facing hunger during the lockdown period.
