Oreo’s Birthday Fundraiser for Kan-anan Ni Niño Beneficiaries

For Oreo's 1st birthday we would like to raise funds for the foundation Kan-anan ni Niño. I am an OSA Cares volunteer for a couple of years now and have experienced participating on this particular activity and have seen first hand the beneficiaries and how much they needed the support and guidance. I do not have enough funds to sponsor even a single session of the feeding program so for Oreo's first birthday, instead of bringing him somewhere to enjoy and buying him things he won't eventually use, we thought it is appropriate to help those in need. His birthday is on 26 July 2019 but because Kan-anan ni Niño only operates on Tuesdays, the funds gathered will be used the following week. We will physically be there to join the beneficiaries on the day and to celebrate with them.

What is Kan-anan ni Niño?

The Santo Niño de Cebu Augustinian Social Development Foundation, Inc. (SNAF) holds the Kan-anan ni Niño (Sto Niño's banquet). It is a full dinner-time meal project without cost for ambulant families living off the streets around the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño. Each Tuesday, volunteers usually prepare a main dish of rice and two courses of viand, drinks, and dessert for its valued guests. Currently, the "kan-anan" serves on average 80 guests, half of which are children.

The Kan-anan Ni Niño does not end there. It also serves as a steppingstone for the eventual transformation of each family into a productive unit of a self-sustaining and integrative community. It acts as a mechanism to evaluate, reorient and eventually endorse families who may be willing to abandon their mendicant lifestyle and adapt a rural living sustainably engaging in technical and farming activities in an Augustinian "producers village" in Dumanjug, Cebu.

Kan-anan ni Niño is operating under the leadership of Fr Aladdin Luzon, OSA, Executive Director of SNAF and with the cooperation of the Franciscan Friars of Charity, OSA Cares Volunteers, and other lay individuals.

Who is Oreo?

Well, Oreo is our naughty but cute and loving baby puppy who will turn 1 year old on 26 July 2019. He is a smart little boy who's hardheaded at times but often times listens if told. He is a "laagan" little boy who likes to ride with his dada on a motorcycle.
