Kermit Parker was wrongfully convicted at 19 years old for a June 1988 crime he did not commit. He has been incarcerated for the last 32 years on a life without parole sentence. Since then, fighting to regain his freedom back, now recent developments are surely to shine new light on his case.
There is evidence that when the detectives came to his family home, he was told, (as was his father) they only wanted to take him to the office for a few questions. They did not arrest him at that time, however forced him ride in their car and not permitted to ride with his father. Once at the station, in the room during the interrogation, he was handcuffed to the table, detectives took turns coming in and out of the room questioning him (bullying) if you will. They became angry with Kermit because he kept asking where his attorney was, "I want my attorney" and Kermit refused to sign the Maranda waiver (which made the detective angry). Kermit's request for his attorney went ignored and un-noticed. This went on for hours while his father sat in the lobby waiting and were not permitted in the room. During trial there were testimony by the prosecution witnesses that revealed these men were beaten during interrogation for their testimony. Also convincing them to point fingers at Kermit Parker and/or to get a "deal" out of it. Kermit was never allowed to speak or testify during his trial nor did his "Public Defender" ever listen to him. We MUST get back into court, this time allowing Kermit to get on the stand and tell the Real Truth of what happen the day of June 21, 1988.
We suspect instances of juror bias (in this case both counsel & prosecution refused to strike), police and prosecutorial misconduct, falsified, manufactured, uncorroborated and unsubstantiated statements , ineffective counsel.
For in excess of 15 years Kermit's case application was submitted to the "New Orleans, Louisiana Innocence Project" only to be denied due to lack of DNA Evidence. He was told, they only took cases when the Conviction was based on DNA Evidence, and his case was NOT. Kermit's case is based upon being 100% Innocent of the crime he has been Convicted of! Kermit suffers from several diagnosis disorders since being incarcerated. He has a severe degenerative back disorder which causes him very serve pain on a daily basis, this disorder requires surgery that not one single prison physician is qualified to perform. His legs, especially knees have gotten worse in the last 15 years, on top of his high blood pressure, cholesterol and PTSD caused by the mental abuse of the prison. Many years Kermit had given up hope, felt there was no use, everyone and every place he applied has denied him. Until recently we decided that we needed to find private council. The cost of incarceration isn't cheap. Society paints a picture of "Free Room & Board" when you go to jail. This is the farthest from the truth! Kermit owes the State of Louisiana over $8000.00 currently right now. In which Louisiana takes 50% of everything sent to Kermit. In the mean time, the expenses do not stop... We have phone expenses, Kermit has to pay for his dental & medical, toiletries, food & snacks (which are priced triple of what we pay in society), even water, or they end up drinking brown water from the faucets/tap. So much more to even begin to list. To retain an attorney, just the down payment is like $7000.00 for a criminal attorney to take on a case this old. I am now calling upon the people of the Nation - of the World. Kermit has been Denied Justice for over 32 years. His mother is not well, his father is elderly, and our son has a disability that now he is ventilator dependent. 32 years...his entire adult life away from his family! Please Help Bring Him Home. He is a Son - a Brother - a Husband - a Father - right now, most importantly - an Innocent Man. Kermit needs proper Attorney representation to prove Innocence, Injustice and Bias. We need your HELP. Thank You and God Bless. #FactuallyInnocent
