My friend has been suffering for about 15 years with illness she was diagnosed with Lupus and since then has had multiple other diagnoses on top which make her spend a lot of her time in hospital without her kids. She suffers from morning till night in pain having to use walking aids and rely on other aids around the house. She recently lost her mum who committed suicide deciding enough was enough having to deal with the same type of illness Jodie does. She is insistent that she will not allow her children to be carers as she does not want to take away there childhood so she puts on a fake smile everyday to prevent them from having to see the pain she has to deal with. She feels as though she embarrasses them by using aids in front of her friends so suffers throughout. She hates and feels like a failure that she can’t do what other parents can so therefore she is depressed aswell.
Recently she reapplied for the DLA and the outcome was that she could no longer receive full Benifit due to the fact that she was of sound mind to follow a sat nav dispite receiving full points for mobility. She therefore had her car taken away so she is no longer mobile as she is unfit to travel due to her disability meaning she feels more of a failure as she is limited as to what she can do with her children being a single parent of three. She is currently disputing this but has been delayed due to the loss of her mum. The person she feels is the only one who can understand what she is going through. They put her on jobseekers knowing that she has many days she can’t move is bed bound or just bound due to her pain. She lost this because she failed to attend one of her appointments due to her illness so is now really struggling with her children but always puts them first and hides her anger and struggle from everyone as she feels so alone.
Although I help her she doesn’t let me do too much as she feels like a burden to people. I just feel like I can try help her by providing and asking for donations from people who may have some understanding of what she is feeling or going through.
I feel it would be nice for her to show her that there are people who care and she is not alone. Her children need things and it would be nice for her to actually feel like she can provide and for her to see them happy
