Happy New Year!
It has been weeks that super typhoon Odette hit Cebu and It was my intention not to make further cries for help especially on this platform because I thought that government aid would be available. Sorry to tell, I guess I was wrong. With the government’s plate as of the moment is already full with regard to handling the pandemic and that there is an imminent surge of new COVID-19 infections, I guess we all need to do our share in helping each other.
The past days have been very tough. A supertyphoon hit Cebu and made landfall in Carcar, Cebu which is a town's away from my hometown, Sibonga, Cebu last Dec. 16, 2021 evening. That was the strongest typhoon that hit the Philippines for 2021 and was comparable enough to the wrath of Typhoon Haiyan ( Yolanda ). Up to this date, it is still evident on how powerful this typhoon was in the Southern part of Cebu. Life was never easy for all of us.
Government aid has been quite sluggish. Though we can’t blame them but is so sad that we, from the South, are neglected. Sibonga is a 3 rd class municipality in Cebu province. People only rely on agricultural, fisheries and hard labor just to earn a living. Personally, I have made some efforts for aid in my barangay, to my relatives and neighbors, but this effort is not yet enough to support them.
Properties have been damaged and livelihood has been disrupted by this typhoon and it did not spare mine. Electricity and water supply in our area are still uncertain when to be restored.
I am knocking on your kind hearts to help us recover from this tragedy. With your help, I am planning to buy rice, canned goods or even share your hard-earned monies to them so that they can do whatever they want to help rebuild what was lost.
May this Year provides speedy recovery and healing.
