Our story of Aleph Riley - our little warrior

Aleph Riley was 3 months old when we first discovered that he has agenesis of the corpus callosum. Wherein, the thick band of 200 million nerve fibers, which sits in the middle of the brain connecting the two cerebral hemispheres, is completely missing.

The disorder affected my little boy so much. He has low muscle tone, poor motor coordination, is experiencing delays in motor milestones, low perception of pain, seizures, feeding and swallowing difficulties that cause him to aspirate, hence his pneumonia keeps coming back. He has vision problems too, the retina of his right eye was detached and he has orbital masses in the left eye with droopy eyelid.

Since then, the Therapy Center and Hospitals had become his second home. At a very young age, he needed to meet 11 different Doctors in every 1-3 months to check his progress. He underwent different types of laboratory tests, X-rays, MRI and ultrasound to check his major organs.

Baby Aleph, needs to undergo an eye surgery to restore his vision the soonest possible time, he will also need to undergo gastrostomy surgery to help prevent him from having a lung infection and orchidopexy surgery for undescended testis. Also he will need to undergo oral, speech, physical, psychomotor and occupational therapy.

Riley is a little fighter with an incredible spirit. He smiles and laughs a lot despite all the difficulties he is going through since birth. Life with Riley is a heart-warming experience for our family and friends. There are moments of sadness and disappointments, but the joy and laughter he brings to us far exceed any heartache. We will forever be grateful that God has given Riley to us. He has absolutely changed all our lives for the better!
