Who are we?

We are a group of volunteer past members of Ananda College Senior Brass Band, or ACSBB as it is commonly known. We aim to raise funds to purchase new musical instruments for ACSBB which is a dire need.

ACSBB started with a handful of music loving students and a few instruments in 1992. Since its inception ACSBB was grown to be one of the prominent school brass bands in Sri Lanka winning many competitions and accomplishing some outstanding achievements.

To name a few,

  • Winning All island championship of school brass bands in 1997 just 5 years after its inception
  • Handpicked to welcome Price Charles, the Prince of Wales, to Sri Lanka in 1998 for the 50th independence celebrations in Sri Lanka.
  • Winning many other band competitions organized by various institutions and security forces.
  • Gave life to one of the biggest interschool brass band festivals, Prashasthi, which stunned both music lovers and the brass band community in Sri Lanka. We have been staging Prashasthi annually from 2001 till 2015 in prestigious locations such as BMICH, Nelum Pokuna and Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium.

There's no doubt that ACSBB played an immense role in making the calibre of men who we are today.

Difficult times are inevitable occurrences in any organization and ACSBB is no exception. The band is in dire need of new instruments and it has created a great opportunity for us to return the favor.

What do we need?

We want to fundraise to purchase new musical instruments by

  • We have well used the existing instruments over many years which are now at the end of their life. As a brass band we used these instruments in both indoor and outdoor events performing drills and marching with them.
  • Our instruments don’t sound the same as they did 10 years ago. We need to get the beautiful tones back in to the band.
  • We want to purchase new instruments to make sure that the ACSBB functions properly to its full potential
  • Our band is now growing again with the support of the teacher in charge and past band members. Most of the members don’t have an instrument to play and need to share one instrument among 4 students. This is giving only a marginal practice time for the band members

Current requirements are as follows.

  • 4 x Trumpets
  • 4 x Trombones
  • 2 x Euphoniums
  • 4 x Alto Saxophones
