Hello, I'm Anthony from cardiff, UK. this year and it's been amazing because we adopted Bear, a Yorkie/ Shih Tzu mix called a Shorkie. This page isn't for me though, it's for my 9 month old pup, Bear. So basically what's going on is we've noticed that his gait has changed and his hips click or pop back into place as he walks. When he runs he bunny hops with his back legs rather than a normal run. We decided to get this checked out and after x-rays of Bear's hips it turns out he does in fact have Hip Dysplasia in both hips and the heads of the leg bones need to be removed in order for the best long term treatment. His knees also need to be fixed (Patella Luxation Repair) which we knew could be a hereditary issue for small dogs. This will help with the Hip Dysplasia and alleviate the stress on the knees. We were informed that if we did not do the surgeries then he would live in pain and that the next "best" option would be euthanasia. We've watched his condition worsen in a short period of time and he often stops to correct his hips as they've started to cause him discomfort. Bear has also started to become slower in getting up in the mornings and his hips appear to cause him some minor pain as he stands after long periods of laying down. You can see how he sits in the picture with both legs laying straight out; he simply can't sit like a normal dog due to the hip and knee issues. The vet wishes to wait 2 months for the surgeries to make sure that he is in fact done growing so we may also need to get medication to keep him comfortable in the mean time. So far he seems to tolerate it but you can tell when he walks or gets up and then bites towards his rear area that he is in discomfort. Bear has become a large part of my life quickly, he is the most unique and irreplaceable thing in my life. He's become my best friend in 6 short months and I can't imagine my home without him. If we could somehow raise enough money for my little Bear I would be eternally grateful to everyone who helped improve his quality of life. I'd be at peace just knowing that he wouldn't be in pain and he would be a playful energetic dog again. He will need two surgeries done separately at a cost of approx. $2,000 each. The problem being is, we don't have that sort of money right now. We can come up with some of it but any help would be greatly appreciated. He's a big part of my life and hope you can see we need some help. Thank you for your kindness. If you can't give at least SHARE to save my Bear!
