My mother, Violeta S. Escaner, 73 years old, was diagnosed with SUBARACHNOID HEMORRHAGE and is currently on LIFE-SUPPORT in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Bacolod Queen of Mercy Hospital, Bacolod City, Negros Occidental, 6100.
At around 10:41 am on May 8, 2019, my niece, who was at home at the time of the event, called me at work, panicking, and told me to rush home because my mom looked very ill. So, I rushed home and when I arrived, my mom was already pale, her skin a little cold, her eyes were non-reactive to light, was having severe seizure, and peeing uncontrollably. So, I did a few chest compressions, and at that point, she able to snap out of the seizure and moved her left arm. While I was giving chest compressions, my niece contacted a paramedic so we could rush her to the nearest medical facility. The physician on duty provided emergency care and referred us to go to one of the major hospitals in Bacolod City.
When we arrived at the Bacolod Queen of Mercy Hospital, around 2:15 pm, the attending E.R. Physician immediately requested to perform a Cranial CT Scan and recommended that my mom should immediately be transferred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Prior to this, my mom was already bed-ridden due to stroke last September 1, 2017, which paralyzed the whole right side of her body. Since we lack the financial stability, we were not up-to-date with her medications and check-ups, and could not afford to hire a physical therapist for her.
At the moment, we are desperately seeking financial help to continuously fund her medication and expenses in the hospital. As of to-date, May 13, 2019, five (5) days from the time of her admission, our hospital bill is already at PHP 150,975.61 and the hospital has already locked our account because we cannot pay for the daily deposit of at least PHP 15,000.00, and right now, all medicines, laboratories, and medical supplies are in cash basis only. If we cannot pay, the hospital will stop providing treatment, but would still continue to charge us.
Our family does understand that my mom’s heart will stop beating any time soon, however, we want to do everything we can to possibly extend her life and still be able to spend some little time with her. If her time does come, we also worry that we may not be able to afford to even buy her coffin. ☹️
So, we desperately plea to all the people with good souls to help us with our dilemma. Thank you for taking time reading our life story and we hope that we have touched a part of your hearts.
