Sitting in our garage is a 1964 VW Beetle. It was originally owned by my late father, and now belongs to me. Sadly, it has been sitting unused for many years and is no longer able to run, or qualify as road safe. Although late, I'm launching this project in hopes of returning this iconic car back to life. It was always my fathers wish to return it to it's former glory, as not only did he buy it new off the lot, but it was also his first car which he bought with his own money. And so being "late" as he is no longer around, I would like to attempt to raise the money to fix it.
My father, Steven Cherry, worked for Volkswagen of America for 40+ years. The car he had been driving for the last 15 years was a 2001 silver Beetle. Despite its age, it ran perfect and even looked the part as well. Sadly we lost that car in March 2016 in an accident.
This said, I hope to raise the money to restore his 64 Beetle as a late thank you to him.
The car itself, got this way simply from sitting in the garage for many years(20+). It wasn't exposed to the elements, and while it was still being driven it was never in an accident. There is some rust, but within manageable levels. Although we didn't try starting it, by manually turning the engine we were able to make it do a full revolution.
What needs work(how will the money be spent):
• Steering box is/has leaked
• Floorpan is gone
• Suspension needs to be rebuilt
• Interior needs to be repaired/replaced.
• Tires seem to not have holes as after jacking the car up they seem to hold, but they will still need to be replaced(the spare might still be usable).
