The Andes or Andean Mountains are the longest continental mountain range in the world. They are a continuous range of highlands along the western edge of South America. I will be attempting a 300km trek in the Chilean Andes over a month, an exciting adventure called the 'Andean Trek for Cancer'. This challenge will test me to the limit. The number of kilometers walked in one day vary between 7-20km. I will be attempting this journey solo, backed by a small team of supporters at the start and finish, and to document my journey.
The purpose of this journey is to raise funds for Cancer Research, specifically leukemia treatment and awareness. I have personal reasons for wanting to raise funds and awareness. In the past 11 years 2 dear friends of mine have passed away from leukemia.
The other part of the funding will go towards upliftment and education of homeless people in the Western Cape area. Again, my reasons for wanting to raise funds in order to educate these unfortunate individuals in society is twofold 1) in order to prevent criminal activity 2) give them a stable job and place of shelter. I have witnessed first hand how someone who has once had a good life, lost everything.
Therefore I will attempt my journey with a twofold goal in mind. One is to reach the end of my planned route, documenting and detailing my journey, the other is to raise funds for charity.
