My name is Cindy, I am a - Hiphop Dancehall Krump - Dance Theatre maker.

In other words, I tell important stories through dance.

Stories that must be heard, stories that make people laugh and cry, stories that are needed to make this world a better world.

_________________________________________________

I just finished my 1st year at the International School of Theatre of Jacques Lecoq in Paris.

YOUR DONATIONS will help cover the costs of my tuition fee to finish my studies.

However... there is a PLOT TWIST!

I am studying my 2nd year of the Jacques Lecoq technique, this time in Barcelona!!!!!!

The "Estudis Berty Tovias - Escuela International De Teatro" teaches the same technique, same program, same curriculum, but is a much cheaper option in comparison to Paris.

_________________________________________________

To up my game as a choreographer / director / performer AND TEACHER, I decided last year to drop EVERYTHING and go back studying.

People taught this was crazy, yet very courageous. So much support poured in from all over the world. While it was crazy to change my entire life around, my higher purpose was calling me and my soul knew this was my path. My pursuit of my higher calling inspired others to make their own leap of faith too.

Donating money is an energetic exchange.

I want to THANK YOU and give back energetically to the Universe in 2 ways:

- by giving you REWARDS when making a contribution

- and ALSO for every £200 in donations, I will offer a Free Scholarship on the Dancers Do Business Course to a dancer in the world who needs it (I currently have 6 dancers on Scholarship, from Kenya, South Africa, Ghana, Colombia, Senegal, Nigeria)

  • 1: Investing in me is investing in future generations to come

Throughout my career as an artist, I have set up numerous projects to support young talents to reach their dreams.

One of my flagship programs is "1000 Pieces Puzzle". After being coached by me, dancers have set up their own non profit organizations, went on tour with their own shows, and completely transformed their local communities.

With my training at Jacques Lecoq, I not only further my own knowledge, but also the skills and know-how of all my future mentees!!!!! In order to be a great role model and a great mentor, I must continue raising my own game as an artist.

Testimonials:

“Cindy’s given me permission to empower myself in ways I didn’t know how, everything she’s taught me I will take on with me through out the rest of my life.” – Ffion

“Cindy is a sun and a bright light shining. I never knew I could do this as a performer.”– Paola

“1000 Pieces Puzzle… Hands down the best dance experience I have ever had. I say ‘dance experience’, but it was so much more than that. I learned so much that has already, & will continue to, aid me in my career. However I also learned a hell of a lot about myself.” - Elsa

  • 2: Invest in female leadership

There is still HUGE gender inequality within the dance and theatre sectors.

Female choreographers and theatre directors earn less money, and have less access to big commissions or touring opportunities with their work compared to men. There are more men appointed as artistic directors in comparison to women. And so much more...

By investing in my skill set, you are also investing in a female leader who aspires to change the gender game in the industry.

Press Reviews:

“A masterclass in contemporary dance, Voices in the Alleyway shows the struggles of a young pair of basketball-lovers, as they attempt to free themselves from the shackles of oppressive upbringings.” – The London Word

“Cindy Claes shifts boundaries in Dance Theatre.” - Isaac Ouro Gnaro

  • 3: An incredible opportunity to... create high quality theatre

I am from a Hiphop Theatre, Dancehall, Krumping dance background.

Through my shows, projects and events, I always aim to give more visibility and recognition of our rich dance cultures in the theatre sector.

And this is not just and only about visibility:

- it is about creating high quality dance theatre work to show the world what, WE, are capable of

- it is about creating meaningful, life-changing artistic work, with at its core a hope to transform society into a better version of itself. The more skilled we are as artists, the more chances we have to bring important social questions to the forefront.

  • 4: Professional development for experienced artists

There isn’t much professional development available for more mature artists. Opportunities and resources are scarce for more experienced artists.

(PS: I am 38 years old. Most artistic financial support / scholarships, are aimed at artists under 25.)

PS: Why still invest in me even though it seems that I already achieved “so much”?

Because what I have done so far as an artist, and as a female leader, is only chapter 1 of a much much bigger vision I have in mind.

Your support helps me to achieve my true full potential as an artist, and community leader.

______

PS: and in addition to all of this, for every £200 donated I am also opening up a Free Scholarship for the Dancers Do Business Program!!! So your donations will have triple impact!

The "Estudis Berty Tovias - Escuela International De Teatro" in Barcelona is a private school.

£3763 - tuition fee (2nd year of training, and last year to complete the full program)

PS: I will be able to sustain myself in Barcelona while studying. The schedule allows me to continue taking some artistic jobs or take on a week-end job to pay for my living expenses.

I must answer this question in 4 parts:

  • PART 1: Why the Jaques Lecoq technique?

Why Jacques Lecoq He was a Genius.

Jacques Lecoq (1921-1999) was a pioneer. The training program includes physical theatre, comedy, clowning, mime, movement analysis, storytelling, acrobatics, moving structures, mask work, bouffons, Commedia Del Arte, etc.

Here are a few videos to illustrate how exciting it would be to bring this knowledge to the Hiphop, Dancehall, and Krump world:

Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=koExYifqFRo

Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFeFVFD0gP8

  • PART 2: The network

The School attracts international students from the circus industry, acrobats, dancers, theatre makers, playwrights, actors, etc. All students have already made waves - in some way, shape or form - in the arts sector. This is not a school one attend when they are fresh out of College. No. This is a school for more mature artists, who wish to deepen their know-how both as performers and directors.

I will be training in a highly demanding environment, requiring physical stamina and a huge amount of mental stamina too.

It will also be an opportunity to develop an international network.

  • PART 3: The cost and surviving as a student in Barcelona

I finished my 1st year at the International School of Theatre of Jacques Lecoq in Paris.

The school in Barcelona teaches the same technique, same approach, same curriculum, but the tuition fee is half of what it would cost to keep studying in Paris. Living costs in Barcelona are also much lower.

  • PART 4: Learning Spanish

I started learning Spanish 3 months ago. Yep, the course is mainly in Spanish. Nothing can stop me.

Passionate about organizing international exchanges for dancers, knowing Spanish will give me the opportunity to expand the reach of my programs. More dancers will benefit, more countries will be able to communicate through dance.

In a few months time, I will speak 4 languages (Dutch, French, English, Spanish), AND will master the jargon of theatre within those languages.
