24 Paws and Two Feet
We need a bit of rescuing
We are three dogs, three cats and one human. We need to find a new home and a few things to put in the new home. My/our circumstances changed from what was once expected and now we need to make some major adjustments to our living arrangements and lives.
I cannot bear the thought of relinquishing any of them. Pets are for life. They are my world. It’s my responsibility to take care of them. And they are as much of my life, as I am for them.
UPDATE 30 May 2019: It is half the cost per month to rather pay a mortgage than to pay rent. I have been investigating this for a few months. If I could buy a place, I could HAVE ALL OF THE PETS WITH ME (my ultimate goal). Within my budget, I would have to move farther out from my new job (in Amsterdam), but that's okay...as long as I know I have all six faces to greet me when I get home...the commute would be worth it. And by commute, I mean about 45 to 75 minutes.
UPDATE 28 AUG 2019: I am still travelling back-and-forth between work, Limburg (where the 24 Paws are) and various places to stay. I live out of a suitcase and I am not loving the few days I get to see the 24 Paws. I thought I had found a house for all of us. My offer was accepted, but the inspection found major foundation and other problems, so I had to back out. Everything in my limited price range is going to be problematic, but I hope no more €40,000 problems that are not divulged first. Le sigh. Back to zero.
We are Renée, Rudy + Lois, Mara, Wakiya, Charlie and Ayla
Please go here for more information about all of us.
Here’s a bit about me, if you don’t already know: I’m Renée. I’m from Canada, but now live in the Netherlands. I sold, gave away or packed everything I owned to move to the Netherlands. I did this for love. I wanted to build a whole new life here. It hasn't quite worked out the way I thought it would…such is life. I have lived in the same place and been able to take care of my dogs and cats due to an arrangement I had with my ex, but we have to leave now. It's time to move on.
My freelance work and Etsy shop are not bringing in enough for me to take care of all 24 Paws and Two Feet, so I need to move elsewhere to get a job. Currently, I live in the countryside and there are very few opportunities around here that have a decent wage or that don't also require the German language (I live close to the border).
UPDATE 24 MAY 2019: The human has a job about 200 km away. There is a huge problem with a lack of housing in the Netherlands; therefore, rental prices are sky-high and they get scooped up almost immediately after they're posted. In a land of people who love animals, rentals sure do not reflect this notion. Even permission for one pet is difficult to obtain. I am stumped.
This is what we need help with:
- A place we can rent that has, at the least, a small, fenced in yard or garden. Enough for deposits and fees.
- Or a better option in the long run: enough to put into the upfront costs of buying a place for us, even if it's small home.
- A small, inexpensive car to get me back-and-forth to a job, take the pets to a vet, go the beach with the dogs, etc. When it's less expensive, I will be biking and using the transit system.
- I have a few things to bring to my new home, but still need to get some furniture. I have no problem getting secondhand items.
The funds I raise are not for gadgets, trips, spas or tiaras…I just need a bit of help to get me on my own two feet again, then I can take it from there. I have been sacrificing many things so I can keep saving for a place for us. I don't mind the sacrifices if it means we're altogether in the end.
If we raise more than the target amount, it will either be used towards rent, a down payment to get our very own place and/or added to a savings account for future vet bills.
Any little bit helps and the 24 Paws and I will be grateful for any support you may offer. Thank you for taking the time to read my story and—if compelled, for your donation.
Love,
Renée

A MUCH NEEDED UPDATE FROM US
Update posted by Renee L at 09:36 pmFirst of all, my apologies for the radio silence. Secondly, we moved back to Canada. The funds we raised were saved. They were meant to use as a down payment for our furever home. However, COVID struck hard and I lost my job, no one was hiring after that because of. . . . .

Update posted by Renee L at 09:58 amHello friends!Updates have been added more frequently on our facebook page...please join us!We never did get the chance to buy a home in the Netherlands...circumstances got in the way: housing shortage, location, etc. At the time of all the searching, going to open houses, making phone calls, being overbid and. . . . .
I don’t have the heart to change the name
Update posted by Renee L at 03:26 pmMy girl cat, Lois died last month. I can’t bring myself to take four paws away. The rest of us are still in the same situation. Homeless, in a sense, as we are still not together, all my stuff is still packed and I haven’t been able to buy a. . . . .
New job, nowhere to live…
Update posted by Renee L at 02:23 pmFor more frequent updates, please feel free to join us on our 24 Paws and Two Feet facebook page. Good news, strange news and we still have not found a home yet…After all the searching, applying, waiting and scattered interviews, I finally have a full-time job. It's a good job. . . . .
Hopefully good news soon…
Update posted by Renee L at 10:00 amOn tenterhooks I await two interview opportunities for jobs I equally desire. Bearing in mind, I still have to find a place to live and submit rental and pet deposits on a new home, plus purchase a few things I'll need to live (like a bed!) and sort out moving
The love pours in, but my luck has not changed
Update posted by Renee L at 08:38 amAgain, I am very grateful to all of my friends, my friends' friends, my friends' families and to a few kind strangers who have been able to help us out. You're incredible and sweet and amazing!Still no further prospects on jobs or places to live. The house in England may. . . . .
Might have a house to rent in England!
Update posted by Renee L at 12:55 pmThe owner will allow all of us to live there too!!! And the place is perfect for us. I have been getting rather sceptical about finding a place anywhere and this is the first time an opportunity like this has come up. She is trying to sell the house and. . . . .
Decisions cannot be made yet
Update posted by Renee L at 08:29 amI have a few more ideas about what to do and where to go, but we can't safely move anywhere until I have raised enough funds or finally get a job (I have been submitting applications for several months, with very little feedback). It's strange to be in this limbo
We still can't make any decisions yet
Update posted by Renee L at 01:27 pmFortunately, we are still getting donations, but we need to get closer to the target. If you can spare anything at all, we will put your kindness to good use. Thank you.Honestly, I do not know what will happen if we can't reach our goal. I don't mind so much
We are all very appreciative for the love and support !!
Update posted by Renee L at 01:44 pmWAKIYA SENDS HIS LOVE on this wonderfully, sunny day in February!!
