In 2013, the 4 of us decided to start our own endurance racing team and enter into the Prokart SSS Championship, South Africa’s most prestigious 4 Stroke Endurance racing series. We named our team after the late Peter Martin, who helped all of us achieve success in our karting endeavours. Thus, 2P Racing was born.

Left to Right: Sheldon Halgreen, Adrian Wood, Derek Martin, Sebastian Bergman

We have known each other and been friends for many years and always followed our passion for karting and racing in general. Our first year in the Prokart SSS Championship was tough, learning that endurance racing is not like any other type of motorsport that most are familiar with. It requires tremendous teamwork and thorough preparation of your kart and a strategy that will outsmart the other teams you’re competing against. Fitness and mental focus is just as important. It is a sport that tests you physically and mentally and is very rewarding when you get it right.

Having learnt many lessons in our first year together and realising that we were competing against teams that have a lot of money and technical expertise, we pushed ourselves even harder and applied our minds to come up with a winning strategy on our very low budget.

Driven by our passion and the will to win, we started the 2015 season with 3 wins in a row! We couldn’t believe it, but never let that distract us from what we set ourselves out to do, win the championship. 2015 was a tough season, regardless of our fairy-tale start, and we came out on top and took the championship trophy home, beating 44 other teams that participated throughout the year. We also won the trophy for being the most consistent team of drivers each race throughout the year. This was testament to our ability to work together as a team, push each other and still keep focused on our goals, even though the going got tough at times. Peter had a big influence on us as a father and a friend and it was an honor to dedicate our success to him.

The Dubai 24 Hour Endurance Nations Cup is held every year at the Dubai Autodrome. This is the Le Mans of karting! This event attracts legends from all over the world, including Formula One Champion, Fernando Alonso. Le Mans drivers participate in preparation for the Le Mans 24 Hour race. This race is considered one of the world’s most prestigious and challenging.

We are honored to be amongst the world’s best representing South Africa and intend to particpate for the first time in this event, held on 9-10 December 2016.

Help fund our trip, so we can show the world that South African motorsport has talent that can put us on the map! We need to fund travel and accomodation for our drivers and pit crew. Any amount you can donate would be great. Follow our journey and also our current championship progress in the Prokart Series here, in our defense of our 2015 title. You can also follow the calendar and come visit us at the next race event and say hi!
