Campaign Story
The Democratic Republic of the Congo is said to be the third country of the world to have the largest primate diversity and is the first of Africa.
Sadly, many primates living in the DR Congo are facing extinction due to loss of habitat and also because of the widespread consumption of bushmeat in towns and abroad which have pushed the harvest of some monkey species to unsustainable levels.
Unfortunately, this persisting consumption/trade leads to the depletion of our beautiful Congolese forests and it generates a continual growth in the bushmeat orphans. These babies thus become by-products of the bushmeat trade: since they are too small to be eaten, they are sold as pets.
23 infant monkeys including endangered golden-bellied mangabey and the rare lesula were confiscated from the illegal trade and inhumane living conditions as pets. All are traumatized from seeing their families killed and are suffering without proper care and rehabilitation. These vicytims of the bushmeat trade deserve a second chance in life and J.A.C.K. SANCTUARY, a PASA member in the Democratic Republic of Congo, is desperate to save the young orphans.
Nothing is easy in this part of the world. These 23 orphaned primates are more than 2000kms away from the sanctuary and urgently need your help. Without immediate care, they will perish. Several other orphaned monkeys that were part of this group have already died from malnutrition and poor conditions. Your help is needed today to rescue these survivors and bring them to a proper sanctuary where they can heal and be rehabilitated before returning one day back to the wild.
J.A.C.K. SANCTUARY needs your help to give life-saving around the clock medical care and attention to these monkeys.
Your donation will contribute to the new life these orphans deserve. Donate today!
Thank YOU for THEM
