URGENT OXYGEN AND MEDICATION NEEDED
2222 HOPE FOR MYANMAR - 5 MONTHS INTO THE COUP
We are launching a fundraising campaign for the months of July, August and September 2021. Having been one of the pioneers of Myanmar's travel business for 3 decades as well as the mother of my half Myanmar daughter, it is with great sadness that I will not offer any future travel to Myanmar (Burma) anylonger. I am very well aware that the current deplorable situation will only deteriorate further and it may take years before 'normality' finds its way back as there will be no safe travel any longer. This first 'Hope for Myanmar Campaign' not only targets 1000s of my travel colleagues who are hit hard by this violent interruption but it also is aimed at Myanmar's stronghold: its women. Mothers, wives, daughters, sisters ... Although being the most vulnerable, bearing unlimited responsibilities, day in/day out and working hard to support their families. It was never easy ... but on the morning of February 1, 2021, their life changed in a heartbeat, with the first wave of a catastrophe that even eclipsed North Korea in terms of unimaginable violence and torture.
The world continues to watch and 'thinks' that this too will pass. The people once considered as brothers and sisters of Myanmar are now living amongst their own Myanmar enemies...an enemy that can enter their houses at anytime. Their soldiers (who in fact are supposed to protect their own people) now occupy roofs of houses to aim shots at their own people who are demonstrating for peace and freedom. The ruthless shots have been aimed at breastfeeding mothers, teenagers shot in the head and motorcyclists commuting to work. A 3 year old child was amongst one of the nation's youngest lost. All at the price of USD 80 per body (often left behind with missing organs)- is the price for families who wish to bury their loved ones.
What's next? The 3rd Covid wave arrived, there are as good as no tests being done, nor the majority being educated how to protect themselves and most of the hospitals are either closed. Moreover, there is no capacity to support the thousand of infected people... not to forget that the self imposed army are chasing medical workers, the ones who are able to help the people in need.
Recently the Myanmar junta ordered private oxygen refill companies to stop providing oxygen to people until the junta got their quota for government and military.

With the Southeast Asian country receiving no vaccine supplies since early May, just 1.75 million of a population of about 55 million have been fully vaccinated, according to Health Minister Thet Khine Win. The administration is now in talks with Russia and China to urgently secure more shots, officials said. (Bloomberg/By July 9, 2021, 4:00 AM GMT+7 Updated on July 9, 2021, 9:56 AM GMT+7)

URGENT OXYGEN AND MEDICATION NEEDED
Since July 12,2021 I have gotten non stop requests to help funding oxygen, medication and funeral costs for my colleagues and their families and people who approach them. Covid Infections are said to be 500 per day in Yangon and 200 in Mandalay. Tests are as good as non-existent for the ;ordinary' person. The number of daily infections might be more than triple.
The Junta has set a quota for 'their own people' who are in need of oxygen and claimed that Myanmar people are 'hoarding' oxygen... In South Dagon in the former capital of Yangon the junta closed pharmacies without explanation. We are expecting more pharmacies to be closed, which might end up in high rocketing black market rate
We cannot help everyone, but we can be part of a movement to start supporting the people of Myanmar and help first hand the people we know and the people who approach our contacts in Myanmar.
Right now Myanmar does not need neverending discussions about what to do next, however its cry for rescue needs to be heard: Support the Burmese people in its struggle to regain freedom and democracy.
How will the raised funds be used?
  • Singles will get a fund of USD 450 per person
  • Couples will get a fund of USD 750
  • Household of 3 will get USD 800
  • Household of 4 will get USD 850
  • we will spend an extra USD 10.000 for oxygen and medication
  • we will spend an extra USD 3.000 for 100 orphans near Mandalay, which is food and maintenance of the facility

Please note that we cannot mention any names because of fear and retribution. I am using our former German travel website https://myanmarreisen.com/helpmyanmardonation (with English translation) for more detailed updates where you can click on the link.
