Hello to your good self,

My name is Flora and I am looking to fundraise money to continue my nomad travelling. At the same time I feel very passionately about supporting a lovely family that I have been volunteering with: Zillah (mother), Cosmo (age 9) and Esh (age 2). So far I have been living with Zillah on a Workaway basis meaning voluntary exchange (5 hours work/day for board and lodging). I have great respect for how Zillah parents with her strong drive to homeschool/un-school and educate her children with trust and intuition as her guides. Her and Ben have made brave decisions around how to best parent and provide a loving space for their children. I really appreciate being around Cosmo who is trustworthy and sincere, yet funny and playful and looking after Esh and his pure enjoyment of living. I would like to carry on helping Zillah so that she may get the space she needs to do some of her own projects as well. And so that she is able to continue her work of bringing her children into the world with a deep grounded and open perspective to life. For me this is some of the most important work.

I have been travelling for over a year now, I left school at 17 to embark on my own educational, nomadic lifestyle based around trusting the heart, intuition and allowing the unknown to guide me, which I felt wasn't clearly provide for a young person coming into adulthood. My travels have taken me around Europe and into the USA. I have attempted to live with as little money as possible, experimenting with the boundaries of society and finding alternatives and more sustainable ways of living. I have done hitchhiking, wild camping, a bit of dumpster diving and much community living. My journeys have lead me to many communities with similar intentions of sustainability and connection. These themes particularly interests me along with the education that we provide for the children of our future. I have experience living within families and done some other au-pair work too, working with small children. Included in my experience with children is a training in Hand in Hand parenting and volunteering and working 3 years running on a family summer camp, Grow The Grown Ups at Embercombe, where Zillah and I met.

Hello, my name is Zillah. I live in Somerset and have 2 children. I first met Flora at a parenting camp that she was volunteering at. I was really struck by her maturity and capacity to feel the depth and breadth of people's needs, desires and experience in spite of her apparent lack of years.

She has had a very deep connection with my youngest son Esh since the day she met him. We have spent more time together since: camping on Dartmoor and now here at my home in Somerset. She feels part of our family. She has really bonded with Cosmo too. She 'sees' him so clearly , enjoys his sensitivity and celebrates the parts of him that are unconventional. She continues to deepen her connection with Esh and me.

I think that what Flora is doing is extraordinary. I believe that, in these times it's really really important 'work' to be living so much from her heart and intuition and in service to a more sustainable way of living both in terms of the planet and her own inner journey . It's deeply inspiring to me and I am overjoyed that Cosmo is witnessing someone doing something so brave and unusual at a stage that is only 10 years away from him on his own path .

Flora is an enormous help to have around the house. Her presence gives me more time . That time has become such a luxury to me and I revel in my new found discovery of it as a stay at home mother . As a unit we work in flow.

I want to support Flora in continuing her journey and the way I can do that at present is by offering her somewhere to stay. Those of you that know Flora know the impact that she has on those around her . She is in service to the whole community and we are reaching out to ask for your support so that she can continue to do this. I keep imagining how much I would love Cosmo to feel supported by those around him should he ever decide to do what Flora is doing. Flora lives incredibly frugally and will use the money with grace and elegance. Please give what you can so that she can continue to inspire and touch and be touched by people's lives.

Thank you in advance from me and my 2 awesome boys . We are on such an adventure and feel very blessed to be meeting people like Flora and having people like you around us .

We are asking for £412 as that is based on minimum wage for ages 18-21 for 5 hours a day 5 days a week for 21 days. This felt like a fair amount to ask for from our wider community. Any amount that you wish to give would be so appreciated......really. Giving £5 is a huge support and of course all love and good wishes, or positive vibes would be deeply felt by us. We will be documenting our time together on Instagram . The reason we chose 21 days is that we both had mini projects / creative acts that we wanted to put in place and 21 days felt just the right pocket of time to get the ball rolling . We would love you all to follow us and also follow this fund raising. It feels like a different way of doing things and maybe a way that could work for lots of us.

It's an unconventional step to ask for this kind of support. For us the intention is so clear and the 'project' so inspiring and exciting that we feel it will be carried by that momentum.

Thanks so so much for supporting us in whatever way you choose

With much warmth and respect, Flora, Zillah, Cosmo and Esh X

  • Wow, bravo, super inspiring! Thank you for your kind heart, courage (i think it takes a lot of courage to ask for things like this!), and it's very interesting to see what happens and like you say, what this could imply about financial sharing and community... 'there's enough money in the world, it just needs to be spread round a bit', as they say! Beautiful children, by the way :D!!!
