The badger cull is due to start again any day now and Devon is the hardest hit county. We are already plagued with 6 existing cull zones and we are expecting up to five more zones to be added this year.
Last year the zone we targeted most heavily failed to meet its original minimum kill target by some 411 badgers. It was only branded a ‘success’ after the government moved the goalposts by substantially revising the targets down and extending the cull by a week. One of the cull directors in that zone even resigned afterwards. Our sabs were busy every day of the cull and many, many lives were saved. Most of the setts we protected are still active now.
With our workload about to double, we are asking for your help to enable us to continue protecting vulnerable setts this autumn. Some of our sabs will be out every day and every night of the cull, having booked time off work and taken extra unpaid leave to be there for the duration of this massacre.
There are many ways you can support us, but what we need most right now is help towards the cost of fuel.
Our cull fuel expenses each year amount to at least £2000, which is a cost our drivers simply cannot afford to bear on their own.
This is the first of our cull fuel fundraisers, which will see us through the first week of the cull when most of the killing takes place. If you can spare even just a few quid, every penny of your donation will go towards getting sabs out into the cull zones to save lives.
Thank you to everyone who has already contributed. We couldn’t do it without you.
