My riding partner and I have managed to secure an entry to the 2017 Cape Epic 8 day mountain bike stage race. The Cape Epic rated the toughest and most gruelling mountain bike race in the world with 1200 teams coming from all corners of the world to compete has made securing an entry a challenge in itself. Looking at the 100 early bird team entries for 2017 selling out in a mere 9 seconds just proves this point. The field consists of past and current World and Olympic champions and multiple National champions. Completing this race in itself is seen as an achievement to be extremely proud of.
As most things in life there are financial implications that make this race even more difficult to gain access to. Entries for the 2017 Cape Epic will be $ 5490 per team of two riders, over and above this a team will require finance on flights, clothing, supplementation, components and spares. An estimated total of $ 7000 per team is required to successfully enter this race. As the training and conditioning to be physically ready for this race is the responsibility of the rider, riders do however still require financial assistance to make this race possible. I thus would like to take this opportunity to challenge you and/or your organisation to contribute in any form possible to make this dream a reality for two Zululand riders competing on the biggest stage on earth.
