$2,000 from Achieving a Dream

Hello,

First off, I would like to say, I truly appreciate the fact that you are currently reading this message, even if you choose not to donate to my specific cause.

I am currently a freshman at George Mason University and who is majoring in Social Work. I am interesting in declaring my second major as Conflict Analysis and Resolution. At GMU, I am involved in many different organizations, however, one organization that I prioritize my time in the most is a community service based organization called Give to Save (we are currently hosting a blanket drive for the homeless by the way, if anyone is interested in helping or learning more about our cause please send me a message). My goal for the future is to become a mental health social worker, with a specialty in art and music therapy. After I graduate, I plan to go into the Peace Corps, then a few years later, I plan to establish my career as a mental health social worker as I join in on the cause of getting rid of the stigma on mental illness.

My tuition bill is due January 19th, 2015. I have been working on the weekends as a university librarian and have been slowly saving up my money in order to help pay for my tuition. However, even with me saving up and with the aid of financial aid, I am still $2,000 short of paying my tuition bill. Last semester, I was short of money and my father, who lives paycheck to paycheck, used all of his savings in order to pay for my college tuition. This semester, even though I tried my best to get in as many hours for work as I could while keeping up my 3.9 GPA, 4 As and 1 A-, I was not able to save enough money to not have my father worry about how to pay for my tuition bill. I want to do whatever I can to help him relieve his stress in regards to paying for my education. Even though he does not fully support my major since he is worried about how stressful my future career will be, he continues to support my desire for an education. Although he cannot afford to pay for my tuition bill, he is trying his best to find a way to do so because he does not want me to get private loans, he did not even want me to get loans from financial aid, which was inevitable in my circumstance. On top of that, even though he has not told me, he was laid off from work and luckily has been employed as a part time employee.

As long as I can receive that $2,000, I can continue on with my education, and if I receive more, then that means I will have enough money to afford my textbooks, but I will be grateful to even have the opportunity pay for this semester itself.
