Alijah Sion Canoy is a 2-year old boy who has been diagnosed with Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP) since May 2019. ITP is an immune disorder that leads to easy or excessive bruising and bleeding. The bleeding is caused by unusually low levels of blood platelets. These platelets are cells that help blood clot.

Since September 2019, Alijah has been taking one tablet of Eltrombopag (Revolade) daily. This medicine helps in increasing his platelets so as to avoid bleeding. Unfortunately, Eltrombopag is currently valued at Php840 per tablet. This is almost equivalent to what I would normally earn in a day if I was working full-time.

My son has always been very energetic. Some may even say he's a hyperactive kid. As Alijah's main carer, it is only possible for me to work when he is asleep, as close monitoring is necessary to prevent injuries that could cause bleeding. On top of that, because of the pandemic, I also need to assist my 5-year old daughter with her weekly modules for school. I can only allot 3 hours per day for work. Needless to say, the income I can get is barely enough to pay for our monthly bills and expenses.

In October 2019, I started a fundraiser for my son using this platform. We were able to provide his medication from the money we collected from the fundraiser, together with the medical assistance we could get from 2 different government agencies (once every 3 months) and help from friends and family. It was assumed that the medication would only last for one year, and that my son would eventually recover within the period. Unfortunately, his platelet level, although improving, is still far from normal. We were advised to continue his medication indefinitely as he is still too young to undergo splenectomy.

Because of the recent health crisis the world is experiencing, we deeply understand that donating would be one of the least priority of everyone . However, my family and I will gratefully accept any amount for Alijah until he would be fit to undergo the surgery procedure. Thank you very much and may God bless your caring hearts <3 <3 <3
