TGB Adventures for A Cause - Bwindi Community Water Projects
To unlock our true strength and reach our fullest capabilities, we constantly push ourselves; every challenge we embark on contains the seeds for growth and opportunity. Even our smallest efforts have the power for great change and everyone holds more potential than we realise - we can all make a difference with our actions.
Our founder, Leo, started with his own small, personal challenge - he started running, even though he initially didn’t particularly like running. And on this seemingly small-scale human act, he had a transformative lightbulb moment - having witnessed the good that could be done at a grassroots level with The Gorilla Organization & their community led conservation projects, Leo decided that he was going to run a marathon to raise money to start a clean water project for the communities living around the mountain gorilla’s habitat. And in that instant, the seed was planted for That Gorilla Brand’s Adventures For A Cause.
Leo’s one marathon burgeoned into six fundraising adventures. To date, he has covered over 3500 km, and all the funds he has raised from these challenges have gone into initiating, building and growing the Bwindi Community Water Project with The Gorilla Organization.
From May 2021 until January 2023 , Leo embarked on six intense physical challenges around the globe, to fundraise for much-needed donations in order to provide sustainable water solutions for the communities that surround the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest- home to the endangered mountain gorillas in Uganda.
Currently, only one quarter of the communities have easy access to clean water. We have been working alongside Just A Drop (Specialists in water solutions on the African continent) and The Gorilla Organization (whom we already support) along with local authorities to implement much-needed sustainable water solutions, whether it be the construction of hand-dug or drilled wells, pipelines, sand dams, rain water harvesting systems, and latrines or a hygienic sanitisation programme.
We are determined to make a positive impact on the world, in an area we already feel so passionately about, through our premium conservation lifestyle brand That Gorilla Brand and our continued support of The Gorilla Organization.
As part of our commitment, we are pledging to match all donations up to a total of €75,000 and are guaranteeing that every single euro donated will have been spent directly on the water projects themselves.
Leo embarked on these six challenges:
#1 - Mount Olympus climb (Highest peak in Greece) - COMPLETED
#2 - Solo Marathon in Iceland - COMPLETED
#3 - Rim to Rim to Rim of the Grand Canyon hike (90kms from one side of the canyon to the other and back) - COMPLETED
#4 - Mardi Himal Trek & Run, Nepal - COMPLETED
#5 - Impact Marathon in Jordans Wadi Rum - CO
#6 - Ultra 50km marathon, Uganda - COMPLETED
We are also making a feature length film, Maji, to document these challenges, paired with the story of the global water crisis. From droughts to flooding, nations across the world are experiencing problems in different ways. MAJI (meaning water in Swahili) is a feature documentary taking a closer look at these issues from the perspective of five countries; Iceland, the USA, Jordan, Nepal and Uganda.
We hope that you can support us as we continue on our mission.
