1,000,000 cigarette butts

Hello everyone! First of all, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Stavros Lyrakis and I am a biology teacher. I was born in Crete and I currently live in Athens.

Seeing cigarette butts thrown away, I decided to start a fundraising campaign. They seem to be everywhere! As an ex-smoker, I fully understand those who flick cigarette butts. However, they do not just litter the environment. They contain heavy metals which pollute the environment while filters are made of cellulose acetate (a kind of plastic) resulting in microplastic pollution. I could go on and on describing how harmful they are. Instead, I want to talk about taking action.

I have started collecting cigarette butts thrown away. Then, I move and store them to storage boxes already installed on my roof.

My first goal is to collect 1,000,000 cigarette butts so I ask for your help so I can buy necessary equipment, organize expeditions and raise awareness on this matter. I hope together we can undo the harm on the environment.
