100 Self-Portraits: Defining Ourselves Through Photography

THE GOAL:

To create a photography book of 100 unique self-portrait photographs by 100 unique artists.

THE REASON:
Self-portraits allow artists to define themselves in their own terms. You choose what goes in the photograph, and in doing so, you choose who you are and how to present yourself. As photographers (beginner or professional) we spend a lot of time behind the camera but not in front. Let's turn the lens on ourselves and see the faces of our community. I think this photography project will be a sweet way to get our creative juices flowing and have a tangible product that we can all be proud of. Our unique styles are sure to produce a diverse collection of self-portraits.

BE CREATIVE!
Have fun and think about what defines you. What objects, settings, and people do you identify with? Group self-portraits are welcome! All we ask is that the photograph be OF you (even if you're just peeping out from the corner "Where's Waldo" style) and BY you (compose the shot and have a friend or self-timer press the button).

EVERYONE WHO PARTICIPATES WILL BE PUBLISHED IN THE BOOK.
However, we ask everyone to pledge to buy a copy of the book, because what good is a book if no one reads it, right? The project is not intended to make a profit. Funding goes toward designing and producing the book through Blurb.com and shipping it out.

PLEDGE REWARDS:
For $30 or more you'll get a page to fill with your awesome face PLUS a copy of the finished book! How does it feel to be published??
For $60 you receive a 2-page spread in the book and 2 copies of the book.
For $1 or more you'll get regular updates on the project and your name on the book's "Thank You!" page. These additional donations will go toward upgrading the quality of the book. We want to look gooood and use the best publishing materials Blurb.com has to offer: Hard Cover, Image Wrap, Premium Paper etc.

THINKING BIG:
If all goes well, we'll have the book up for others to purchase, and we can even work on getting a gallery exhibit going! It'll be a chance for all of us to meet and discuss our photographs.

Again, we are NOT MAKING A PROFIT off this project. It's just meant as a catalyst for creativity, a collaboration that will hopefully produce something beautiful and we can all walk away with something we can be proud of.

Please own the rights to your photo! The rights will remain yours, but by participating you'll be granting us permission to use the image in the book.
