UPDATE!!! WOW! Thanks to an amazing group of investors, my tuition is FULLY FUNDED!
Combining online and off-line contributions, I made my goal, paid my first installment, and got to go to an all day symposium on Major Gifts fundraising! I am already learning so much. Here is one trend that is extremely positive, you may want to read about it: Impact Investing, also called Mission Related Investing - This field guide just published today 9/24/2013: https://www.missioninvestors.org/communityfoundationfieldguide
Look for an invite to join me for an Oct 6th celebration. I got a huge boost from my wonderful supporters and look forward to consulting on your fundraising projects.
Charlotte, your friend the five flavored fundraiser
It's ironic - I must fundraise for my own tuition and childcare costs in order to put my own professional fundraising skills into hyper-drive!
I've just hurdled a four year stretch of challenging career-changes and struggle during which I earned a master's degree and juggled multiple teaching and positions at non-profits, all the while supporting two little kids as a single parent. Now, my efforts have paid off: I've been accepted to a competitive certificate program in Nonprofit Fundraising! The 9 month certification program is a partnership between Portland State University Center for Public Service and Willamette Valley Development Officers: http://www.wvdo-or.org/?page=PSU_WVDO . It's an opportunity that will open up mentoring relationships for me with some of the best progressive fundraisers in the Portland area.
Best yet, I will be able to put the new knowlege and connections into high gear to turbo boost my work at these two organizations: the Center for Intercultural Organizing (CIO), an grassroots activist nonprofit that empowers immigrants and refugees, and the Metropolitan Learning Center Educational Foundation (MLCEF), raising money for staff at Portland's original 45 year old alternative school, a haven for free-thinking education for K-12 youth! At CIO, I am the Associate Development Officer and I am Co-Chair of MLCEF.
THE CHALLENGE IS THIS - on 9/25, I need to pay a minimum of $750, the first chunk of my tuition for this excellent nine month program. With back to school costs for my kids, there is just no way I can come up with the tuition on this short notice.
By contributing to my quick campaign, YOU CAN HELP me multiply my effect in civic organizing, and pack my punch in fighting for improvements in education for K-12 youth. Those who know me know one thing: I work incredibly hard and I am ready to take these causes forward. I have so much more to do, I just need a bit of help getting over this ill-timed hurdle. My immediate goal is $750 and my full tuition goal is $3000. Any amount will help! Thank You.
